Tuesday we had the Spelling Bee, we also had Band, and Music. Wednesday we had Chapel,Gym, and Choir.Thursday, we had music class, we had a science test, and we started a new art project. Friday we had our Science test and started a new art project. ~ Chase and Olivia
I also can't wait to see the creative outfits students come up with for next week. In addition to dressing up, we will write a letter to another sixth grade at Immanuel! Then, on Wednesday, send your kiddos in hungry because we will have pancake breakfast after chapel around 10:30! :) Thursday is the Parent vs. 8th grade volleyball match and all week we will be studying and praying for the online mission! It will be a very fun week. All week we have been acting! We acted out the last scene of The Phantom Tollbooth and many students brought in some unique props and costumes! It was quite funny! We also did some acting in 2nd Step (see below). Lastly, we will start writing scripts and acting in Religion as we learn about the Sermon on the Mount. 2nd Step: Students continued learning about RESPECTFUL disagreement and now how to stand up for oneself by using assertive communication. They learned about different communication styles: Passive, Aggressive, or Assertive. These tips are good for you to reinforce at home as you talk through different social situations your child finds themselves in. How wonderful that God gives us the gift of forgiveness when we may be aggressive or disrespectful. We can identify when we mess up and apologize knowing that God can reconcile our differences. Scholastic Book Orders: Going in Wednesday at 5pm! Send them in quick!

This week was fun and even better that it ended with a snow day to take us into the long weekend! Thanks to so many dads and special guests for taking time out of your day Wednesday to share a donut with us. Special memories!
A few reminders:
2nd Step: The lessons last week and this week in 2nd step have focused on Respectful Disagreement. We watched videos on siblings arguing over chores - disrespectfully, then respectfully (after Dad said they had to work it out and get the chores done!) The students then had a chance to role play and "coach" each other in these skills. *Keep calm *Use active listening (eye contact, nodding, repeat idea back) *Consider the other's perspective *Explain your perspective clearly *Act non judgmentally One of the best things to remember when disagreements escalate: In the light of God's love, we can go back and apologize for not being respectful and forgive one another when we fail (which we will!) Maybe a few good tips for us adults too! Save the Date - Friday, March 6, 2020 for Grades 1-8 Grandparents’ or Special Friends’ Day is scheduled for Friday, March 6th from 8:00-11:00. Please plan on having a grandparent or special guest attend. Your child must have an adult present.

You can use the following link to upload pictures of our class to share with the yearbook committee (click on it). Please remember that all pictures should be from class activities such as field trips and class parties. Please note that uploading a picture does not guarantee its use in the yearbook. Thank you for your help in making this year’s yearbook! Please also look for links on Sycamore for links to upload to athletics and other school activities. plicbooks.com/go/83zAY Monday we came back from break and we had Gym and Choir. We had a full week filled with activities! Here is what we did! Tuesday the geography bee was held and Andrew got to represent our class! He received third place! Way to go, Andrew! On Thursday we did a lab where we observed each other's physical characteristics and decided if there were more dominant or recessive alleles for those characteristics in the world. See the fun pics below of widows' peaks, curling tongues, and even butt chins! We started Second Steps back up on Thursday morning learning about disagreeing respectfully and empathy. We watched examples of how to disagree with someone respectful by using empathy and calming strategies. Next week, we will practice doing that ourselves! New Units: English - Adverbs Writing - Fiction Literature - Drama, reading The Phantom Tollbooth Religion - continuing Jesus' ministry Hidden Valley Field Trip Permission slips came home today. Ameren Energy Kits Thanks to all of you for taking the time to look through the materials from Ameren UE and Spire. This a a free program to 6th grade students throughout the state of Missouri. As our students had a detailed Science unit on energy and electricity back in September, we took just 2 days to learn about natural resources and conservation. I hope you are able to make use of many of the energy saving devices. I encouraged students to give unused faucet heads, etc. to a family member or neighbor would might be able to use them. Your returning of the Home Worksheet will help ensure the grant program is able to continue in future years (and also possibly win our classroom a $50 Visa Card!) Scholastic Book Orders: I will place a new order on January 29th. If you would like to order, be sure to use our class code online or you can send in a paper form with a check/money! Let me know!
