Thank you, parents for helping my students throw me a surprise birthday party on Friday! It was so cute and fun. I had a great birthday. Thanks also to the parents who sent in refreshments for Achievement Testing. We are 2 days in and going well - 3 more days to go!
REPORT CARDS AND AR REPORTS CAME HOME FRIDAY I am so proud of your children and their hard work this year. Tremendous growth is taking place! Please contact me or Mrs. Riemenschneider (Math, Social Studies) if you have any questions about your child's progress as we move into the final quarter of 6th grade. A Word About AR. This year's Literature is a heavy genre study. I know some parents have questions when they see the AOTS book level of their child's AR choices below a 6th grade level. Literature class provides our instructional and challenging reading this year, which is why we maintain a 16 point AR goal and don't increase that. AR is now intended for fun, enjoyable reads, and it's acceptable to read lower than a 6.0 AOTS level. This is a shift from 4th and 5th grades, as novels were the bulk of the reading curriculum at those levels. Remember, too, that the book level is only one gauge of the complexity of a read. I encourage you to talk with your child about their book choices for AR and challenge them to stretch themselves to explore other genres or topic areas. Looking forward to partnering with you in this final stretch! RESEARCH PAPERS UNDER CONSTRUCTION: The first draft of the research paper is due Tuesday. This might be a good time to check in with your child have see how things are going. Read over their draft and help them use the "read aloud" technique to see if ideas flow and sentences make sense. Don't forget to tune into the live event on Friday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m. This week in Social Studies we are studying for our test about China’s growing population and how their solutions have impacted their country. We are learning about the digestive system in Science class. We also watched a video about how the food works through the digestive system. In Writing we are doing more stuff with our research paper. We started our notes to add to our final paper and did our 1st draft for our bibliography. G just had a test on ratios. In T they have been learning how to multiply and divide fractions. We finished watching the Helen Keller movie. Also we are learning about different disabilities and how hard it can be to live with them. Right now in art we are learning about different types of crosses and their meanings, so we can sketch and write about them. In religion this week we are studying for a test on Monday. Quizizz is one of our favorite ways to study for a test. In computer class we are currently finishing up our L.E.D lab. Some people are getting super creative with it. Some are making frogs and wacky signs. In spelling we took our test on Friday and have chosen our new words. Remember… EVERYTHING in SPELLING is DUE Thursday NEXT week. ~Abby and Alanna
In Literature this week, we did learn about different disabilities. On Tuesday, we learned about blindness and had to lead a partner down the hall who was blindfolded! After washing hands, they had to come back to the classroom, open a snack, and eat it! It was so fun but also eye-opening (pun intended) to understand what people with disabilities go through! Wednesday was an introduction to learning disabilities. We discovered how difficult it is to read with dyslexia and how some kids struggle with math. Thursday was all about auditory disabilities. We learned and practiced sign language as well as lipreading! On Friday, my mom, Laurie Preusser, zoomed with us to talk about her job as a teacher of the deaf. She works at the Moog Center and works with toddlers who have hearing aids or cochlear implants and teaches them to talk. The kids were amazed at her job! The end of quarter 3 is next Friday! Can you believe we only have one quarter left? Please check Sycamore for any grade errors or questions. Be sure to ask your child first about a grade before emailing the teacher. Report cards will come home the week after next. AR IS DUE ON MONDAY, MARCH 15 BY 3PM. ACHIEVEMENT TESTING WILL BE THURSDAY, MARCH 25TH TO WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31ST. Scholastic Book Orders: Due by March 25th! The weather has been so nice that I am pumped for springtime! I love the month of March!! This was a crazy fast week with lots that we accomplished.
Here are some highlights:
Praise God from whom all Blessings flow! ~ Mrs. Steinbacher Thank you, Zion students, families, and teachers, for the incredible job you did raising money for the American Heart Association. Your generosity is overwhelming! Together we have raised over $22,600.00 for this worthy cause once again breaking our previous year’s record. Thank you for every donation from five dollars to five hundred dollars. We couldn’t have raised this much without everyone helping out. A special shout out goes to our top fundraisers- #1 William L. ($2,360), #2 Autumn G. ($1,140), #3 Ella Grace E. ($1,000), and #4 Mrs. Ford ($518). FYI- The larger thank-you gifts should arrive around Easter. Here’s another reason why I am thankful for our Zion family- Covid has changed numerous things about our school year, but one change that I have enjoyed experiencing is being outside during morning drop off. I have truly enjoyed hearing both parents and students share their expressions of love for each other as students exit their cars and head into school. It is obvious to me that our students know that they are loved by their parents/grandparents and by their Heavenly Father. What a Blessing and what a great way to start the day! From, Mrs. Steinbacher Reminders:
Lastly, enjoy some pictures from day 1 of our Raisin Bran lab. Ask your kid about it! |
