Hey there Zion Lutheran. This is the 6 grade blog. We had a lot of fun this past week with the middle school walkathon! Since the walkathon was held last week that means all donations were due this Friday on the 1st of October. We were very productive with our work. The weather was nice so we got all recesses. Zion confirmation was held on Wednesday. Next week we have the usual schedule with memory, tests, art, ect. So get a nice weekend and be prepared for our upcoming week! For chapel this week we had a lot of offerings come in for Greg Holtz and for the Cambodia meals. The average cost of one meal was 50 cents. So bring whatever you can this upcoming week to chapel. Thanks for reading the 6th grade blog. The End! ~Kylie and Ella

Week 6 is complete! Here is what we did!
Friday was the winner of the week that was filled with lots of fun activities. In the morning, we had a guest speaker, Joe Schmitz from Cuivre River speak to the kids. They learned all about the different ways to make energy and how to save some money using energy! I think the students loved it! In the afternoon on Friday, we held our Walkathon! Our prayers were heard as the weather was absolutely perfect! I noticed a lot of sixth graders running while the others walked and still got to five or six miles! Our class total mileage was about 129 miles!! The kids really enjoyed this event and were excited to raise money for two great causes! The pledges are due by October 1st so your kids can still try to raise money up until then! Look for a small manila envelope that students brought home today to fill up with the donations! Pics below! Tip of the Week: Double check that your child is emptying out his or her Friday Folder each Friday. I've noticed that some of these folders are PACKED with papers from previous weeks. Go through these papers with your child and notice all of the hard work they have put into this first quarter so far! Mask update: We have noticed recently that students are forgetting to bring their own masks to school. They should have a mask with them each day to be worn in early room, in chapel, and any other time grade levels are mixed together. We have a few boxes of disposable masks in case students accidentally forget theirs. However, we have been going through those like crazy the past 2 weeks. We are hoping you could help us and remind your student to bring a mask with them to school each day, in their bag. REMINDERS: - Picture retake day is October 6th - Trunk or Treat is October 15th - Check out Mrs. R's blog for info on math Here are our current units:
Religion: The structure of the Bible and God's covenant promises English: WRITING personal narratives and Chapter 2: Nouns Literature: Fiction and Nonfiction with an emphasis on fact/opinion and symbolism Science: Magnetism MID QUARTER GRADES AND FRIDAY PAPERS Mid-Quarter is just around the corner! With this in mind, take a minute to check your child's grades. They should be all up to date by Monday at the end of the day. If you question a grade, please make sure to ask your child first before contacting me. There is a 99.9% chance they already know why a grade is the way it is. Also, keep in mind that if a student has more than 2 D's, they are ineligible to play any sports. Tests or quizzes have occurred in each subject in the last 2 weeks. You should be seeing these come home in Friday papers. Monday evening would be a good time to get on Sycamore with your child, celebrate successes and set goals. As you look through Friday papers together, ask what they are most proud of or excited about. A goal could be following directions more carefully, asking questions, or using neat handwriting. Tests and grades are one measure of your child’s progress. They can be an indicator of study skills and organization, as well of stronger/weaker areas in their learning. But grades are not a measure of who we are - we are children of God and we receive our worth in Him!! Students took the STAR reading assessment and it was sent home Friday as well. This helps us see where a student may need more support in reading. We will take this again in January and May, but it is NOT used to determine Accelerated Reader choices in 6th grade. Our Literature text is our challenge read - A.R. is designed now for the “dessert” reading, so it’s OK if books are not in the STAR reading level range. Other Info
Has it really been almost a full month of school?? I cannot believe it! Lots happened in this very short and quick week! This week was a great week. We didn’t have school Monday, so we had a 4 day week. On Tuesday, there was band and strings, so choir had a study hall. On Wednesday, there was PE and band and strings had a study hall. For Thursday, Choir had a study hall again. Friday was much more exciting. We had an intruder drill, and also had art and homeroom. Today was a great week! ~ Evan M, class blogger Junior High Walkathon Last week Friday morning, we had our Walkathon kickoff. Ask the kids what they will be doing for this awesome event! If they can't remember, here is the low down. Our Walkathon is going to be September 24th. The kids have to find people who will pledge a certain amount of money for every mile that child runs/walks. We are raising money for Phil's Friends this year. On the day of the Walkathon, we will be outside from about 12:30 to 2:30 walking and running laps! There will be a water/popsicle station, snack shack, and lots of other free and fun goodies the kids will get! It will be an awesome day! PRAY FOR GREAT WEATHER! If you have any questions about this event, let me know! More info will be sent out closer to the event! For now, help the kids find people who will pledge money to the cause! Thanks! Offerings for Cambodia This year we are partnering with Greg Holz, a missionary, in Cambodia to provide meals for the 30 students in his village. Greg Holz feeds the children twice a day 5 days a week. Our chapel offerings will purchase meals for the year. That 15,600 meals! These meals will cost $4,680. What a great way to share the love of Jesus to the children in Cambodia! Watch for updates as we are SENT to help provide meals! |
