What a fun filled week before break! Lots of fun dress up days, Christmas music, Christmas art projects, and more!
Friday was the best day of the week because we had our Christmas party! The kids had a lot of fun playing games like Taboo and unwrapping the Saran ball full of prizes. We had lots of pizza and treats to enjoy during our party as well. THANKS SO MUCH to our room parents that helped out!!! Y'all are WONDERFUL! I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and enjoy the season of Jesus's birth! NEW YEAR REMINDERS: School resumes Wednesday, January 6. This is the new change that was sent out last week. This week went by fast, in art we learned about an artist named Rockwell. He designed newspaper's front covers as a job. Since it is getting closer, and closer to Christmas we are decorating a picture that is inspired by his artwork. Science was awesome, we learned about how photosynthesis works and at the end played a challenging game of “Who wants to be a Millionaire?” In Literature we finished Among the Hidden, and we made a propaganda poster based off the book. Spelling is a bit unusual, we learned to use spelling in a different way, Vocabulary A-Z. Social studies took us on a trip far away when we learned about different cities and their growth. In English We learned about adjectives. In Math we learned about multiply ladders in T-Math and in G-Math we reviewed what we learned about this week to get prepared for our test! Next week’s memory is Genesis 3:15. We also celebrated a few birthdays, Alanna, Chloe W. and Jonas! Also a reminder that next week in Christmas Spirit week. We are starting it off with Deck the Halls which is basically just wearing red and green shirts, and school bottoms all week. Have a GREAT weekend! -Mrs. Donner’s Students, Avery and Alanna :D
We are certainly getting excited for Christmas. It is right around the corner! I loved seeing all of the Christmas sweaters today! They were so cute. Check out the pictures below. Christmas Service Project This year, 6th grade is sharing time and talents in our Christmas service project by creating Christmas cards for seniors. In all of our excitement in decorating our classroom, Advent devotions, and special dress up days celebrating together, we wanted to remember those who might be alone during this season. Pastor Haun, husband to our Early Childhood director, will be delivering our cards to residents at Laclede Groves where he serves as a Chaplain for Lutheran Senior Services. If you have a loved one who might like a personal card this year as well, let your child know and he/she can bring one home to mail. **Donations - do you have old Christmas cards that you wish to donate? We have been re-purposing cards as well as creating our own with collage art and watercolors. Send in any now or before you recycle them after Christmas, send them my way for next year! HOT CHOCOLATE MONDAY Thanks to PTL for sponsoring a special treat for our kids at morning recess on Monday. Please let me know of any allergy concerns. Early Dismissal on December 18th and Christmas Party!: We will have our Christmas Party on Friday that our room moms are working hard on. Sounds like we will have a pizza party!! School is a half day that day ending at 12pm! Then we are off for Christmas break!! We had a great week! Here is an update on our current units!
English: Adjectives! Science: More about Cells! We built our cells in class this week too! Check all of the cells below. They turned out great! Literature: Among the Hidden novel study! Religion: We started exploring Jesus's life and focusing on his temptations with the devil and learning more about the disciples. We have been comparing these events in Jesus's life with our own experiences! We have also been watching the Matthew account of Jesus's life on DVD. WHAT IF... ...the government could force you to sell land? ...we had laws on what you could grow on your farm? or that said NO PETS ALLOWED? ...your family was limited to one or two children? Would you exist? I hope talks about our Literature novel have popped up in your family conversations. Students began the novel, Among the Hidden by Margaret Petersen Haddix, and I have to put a STOP sign in the novels to get them to put it down. Through the novel we discuss literary elements like characterization and conflict, but also propaganda, morals, and faith. It also coordinates with Mrs. Riemenschneider's next. S.S unit on Urban Sprawl in which students are taking on the roles of local citizen activist groups to debate how best to plan a city for population growth. Ask your child about it! P.S. Need a gift idea? This is the first of a series of seven. Scholastic has the The Shadow Children series. I'll place our last Scholastic Order before Christmas. Email me any gift order and I'll send them to the office for you to keep the secret! Christmas Art: The sixth graders have been working really hard on their Christmas paintings. It sounds like a Google slideshow will be created to display their projects this year rather than the traditional display in the main school building. Be on the lookout for that slideshow! Weather Announcement: We are finally into the really chilly months! Remind your child to bring a coat, hat, and gloves to school so they aren't freezing at recess! FOR THE WEEK OF DEC 14-18 |
