What's happening in 6th Grade?
This week in English, we started writing the first draft of the research paper. In G-Math, we learned about functions. In T-Math, we are learning about reciprocals. In Religion, we are learning about Jesus’ last days living. In Literature, we are learning about poetry. In Geography, we are talking about Europe and Russia. In Science we are talking about cells and their functions. In Art, we are learning how to do a Japanese ball thing. That’s a week in our classroom!!!!! By: Ayden M. and Madalyn M. It was a busy week in sixth grade! On Wednesday I was surprised with a birthday party that some students set up! The kids had a great time eating the treats and wearing party hats all day. They were so loving and kind to me! I had a great day because of them. Thanks to those that made it so special! Achievement Testing: Achievement Testing starts in two weeks, April 1-5! Zion has shifted to the Iowa Basic Skills tests and will be testing through their online system. Mrs. Helmkamp will join us for the "Getting Started" tutorial so we are all comfortable with the newer format. Encourage your child to get good rest and eat breakfast each day! RESEARCH PAPERS UNDER CONSTRUCTION: The first draft of the research paper is due Tuesday. This might be a good time to check in with your child have see how things are going. Read over their draft and help them use the "read aloud" technique to see if ideas flow and sentences make sense.

Today is the last day until Spring Break! All the classes were awesome because we don’t get any homework. Everybody is so excited because there is no school on Spring Break. (duh). Mostly the boys are interested in playing Fortnite but some are excited for their vacation. I think when Spring Break is over though a lot of people will be sad. The teachers are excited also. First of all they don’t have to do work. Second of all they don’t have to deal with us student. This has been a day before Spring Break! ~ Ayden M.
Even though Ayden is right about teachers wanting break, I know I will miss your kiddos this upcoming week! I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing Spring Break! I can't wait to hear all about what the kids did. I heard some are going to Florida, Colorado, or DC while others plan to sleep the entire break! In Literature this week, we learned about disabilities. On Monday, we learned about blindness and had to lead a partner down the hall who was blindfolded! After washing hand, they had to come back to the classroom, butter a cracker, and eat it! It was so fun! On Tuesday, we learned about auditory disabilities. We practiced sign language as well as lipreading! We also heard a man talk jibberish as it reflects how a student who has problems hearing might hear. On Friday, my mom, Laurie Preusser, came to class to talk about her job as a teacher of the deaf. She works at the Moog Center and works with toddlers who have hearing aids or cochlear implants and teaches them to talk. The kids were amazed at her job! Right as I stepped outside after dismissing the students, I realized I had forgotten to send home report cards. I apologize greatly for this! If you can't wait another week, you can check out Sycamore for grades from Quarter 3. Thank goodness for technology! The students did get to see their report card at school so if you have any questions please feel free to ask them first! I will send them on Monday, March 25. So Sorry! Faith Family Event: This week in Faith Families we had the opportunity to make a positive impact and share the love of Jesus with children in foster care right here in the St. Charles area. We did a devotion on Matthew 28:35-40, Jesus tells us that when we help others it is like we are helping Him. We then learned about TOGETHER WE RISE - Sweet Cases service project. Please visit https://www.togetherwerise.org/team-building/sweet-cases/ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=q3q-dxUmkSs to learn more about this project. As a faith family we decorated and filled the sweet case duffel bags. We prayed for the child who will receive this bag. These bags will be delivered to local foster care agencies to be given to children in St. Charles. What opportunity to work together as a Family of Faith to make the children in foster care feel loved and give them something of their own. We ended our Faith Family Chapel with the celebration of Baptisms for the months of March and April. Scholastic Book Orders: Due Friday, March 29th. Order up! Tomorrow is going to be Grandparents day/special friends day! In science, we just had a test on the periodic table. In G-Math, we are learning about integers, inequalities, rational numbers. This week was a busy one since it is the end of Quarter 3! One more quarter to go! We had a plethora of tests that the kids did their best on! We ended the week with Grandparent's Day/Special Friend's Day. I was delighted to meet a lot of grandmas and grandpas and show off the classroom! The 7th graders let skits on daily life and reminders God's love for us from Isaiah and Psalms passages. Report Cards They will come home on Friday. We are wrapping up a study of JESUS as TRUE GOD and TRUE MAN digging deeper into his miracles and parables.
Thanks so much to our parent helpers at last minute's notice to drive students to LHS on Friday to see "The Giver."
