What a fun filled week before break! There were lots of dress days, project presentations, and an Elf breakout on Thursday!
Friday was our Christmas party! The kids had a lot of fun playing games like unwrapping the Seran wrap ball and drawing on a plate on their heads! There was also a photo booth. We had lots of pizza and treats to enjoy during our party as well. THANKS SO MUCH to our room parents that helped out!!! You ladies are WONDERFUL! I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and enjoy the season of Jesus's birth! Merry Christmas!! NEW YEAR REMINDERS:

This week the 6th graders have been making some really cool art. Mrs. Donner's class made some interesting cutout black and white art. Mrs. Riemenschneider's class made cool Christmas scenes for the Saturday Evening Post. The weather has been fairly good this week. The 3rd and 4th grade put on an amazing advent service, and displayed their wonderful talent in their solos. ~ Owen and Evan O
One more week and then it is Christmas break! Here's what we did this week! Monday: Finished the book Among the Hidden and starting a project next week that includes different options for the kids! Tuesday: We set up our Christmas Art for a display! EVERYONE did an amazing job! Wednesday: We saw another Advent service where the 3rd and 4th grade hosted an excellent Advent message to all! We built our cells this day too! Thursday: We continued lots of projects - propaganda poster, disciple poster, cell project, so fun! Friday: Started one more art project - positive/negative art. Heads Up! An important form will be coming home on Monday. It is a permission form to view "The Nativity Story" movie on Thursday and Friday of next week. Early Dismissal on December 17th and Christmas Party!: We will have our Christmas Party on Friday that our room moms are working hard on. Sounds like we will have a pizza party!! School is a half day that day ending at 12pm! Then we are off for two weeks!! Sign up here if you can help donate some items for a fun Christmas game! Starting Tuesday/Wednesday the 6th graders will be starting a cell project where they will be making, well cells. The weather has been really nice all week and that is good for recess. Our room is also very festive and ready for christmas. Eddie Bonesy is also looking very sharp. (for a skeleton). Just a reminder all students need to have their materials for the cell project by Wednesday, December 8.We are also very grateful that we have most of our students back from quarantine! Thank you God for this amazing week. ~Owen and Madison
Thank you to the students who participated in the Advent service this past Wednesday with instrumental solos. All did a fantastic job and played beautiful pieces. I am very proud of them and their performances! Here is an update on our current units! English: Writing: Opinion Essays Science: More about Cells! Cell Project building happening next week. Religion: We started exploring Jesus's life and focusing on his baptism and temptations. We have been comparing these events in Jesus's life with our own experiences! We have also been watching the Matthew account of Jesus's life on DVD! PE: For the next two weeks, PE for 6Donner will be on Monday and Tuesday since Advent chapel runs through our normal Wednesday PE time. Literature: novel study: WHAT IF......the government could force you to sell land? ...we had laws on what you could grow on your farm? or that said NO PETS ALLOWED? ...your family was limited to one or two children? Would you exist? I hope talks about our Literature novel have popped up in your family conversations. Students began the novel, Among the Hidden by Margaret Petersen Haddix, and I have to put a STOP sign in the novels to get them to put it down. Through the novel we discuss literary elements like characterization and conflict, but also propaganda, morals, and faith. Ask your child about it! CHRISTMAS PARTIES: These will be hosted by our room mom on Dec 17 before a NOON DISMISSAL. I'll send more details out, but I believe pizza is on the menu, so the students will not need lunch that day. See below for a special Christmas Spirit Week in 2 weeks! Christmas Art: The sixth graders have been working really hard on their Christmas paintings. We will send out a slideshow of all Junior High's Christmas art before break. The kids are excited to bring their paintings home soon. Christmas (EASTER) Project Collection: This year the Junior High has decided to support Phil's Friends, an organization which provides care packages and motivation to people going through a cancer journey. Typically, during the Christmas season in lieu of Christmas book or gift exchanges with the class we ask families to donate items to our service project of choice. This year we are going to do things a little differently. We are going to forgo the Christmas Donations and instead push them back until Easter when representatives from Phil's Friends can come and meet with us. If you are still looking for a donation to make for Christmas you can look to the church welcome center for the Giving Tree. We appreciate your understanding of this change and look forward to making our Easter donation project a HUGE success so we can bless Phil's Friends with items they need. Sport Stacking Update: Zion took part in the World Sport Stacking Days on November 16 and 17. We had two 266 of our Kindergarten through Sixth Grade students actively stacking cups in various patterns and running races involving stacking cups in the hope to help set a new Guinness World record for the most people sport stacking in various locations. Those results are still being tabulated by the World Sport Stacking Association. On Saturday, Nov. 20, two of our second graders, Libby and Rosie, bravely participated in the Cornucopia of Cups Sport Stacking tournament in St. Louis. They did a fantastic job stacking the various patterns including the “Cycle”. They both earned a few medals! We hope to have more students attend a tournament in the spring. There is still time to order equipment for your child before Christmas. Just go to: speedstacks.com/go-direct/37067-10346723/. Your purchase also benefits Zion and allows us to purchase additional equipment for use during our PE classes. |
