Jump Rope for Heart/Heart Challenge occurred on Friday in the mid morning! The majority of our class participated! If you would like to see pictures, visit Mrs. Riemenschneider's blog! I had to stay back with the few that did not want to participate and we did a lot of cleaning! :) I saw a lot of happy and sweaty faces when the 6th graders came back though! They had fun!
We also got to hang with our buddy class again on Thursday. Mrs. Lohman's preschoolers and the sixth graders read books and played friend bingo! It was a lot of fun and so cute! Lastly, we had a pep assembly to send off the basketball teams to state. The gym was packed with kids and it was LOUD! They had a lot of fun enjoying our amazing band, cheerleaders, and fun events! It’s a Dino-Mite Book Fair Zion’s Annual Book Fair is coming up! It’s going to be Dino-Mite! All proceeds will benefit the Zion School Library. This year, our All For Books donations will help the The Arch Community School, the charter school at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Louis. NEW this year is the option for parents and kids to pay with the Book Fair eWallet. Many parents don’t carry cash anymore, or have cash on hand when their child delivers the news… “Mom! Dad! It’s Book Fair day!” The eWallet is a digital payment option offered through Scholastic that gives parents a safer alternative to sending their children to school with cash. It’s easily funded using a credit card, but with the convenience of setting a spending limit. See the flyer in Friday Folders on how to set up your students’ eWallet by visiting http://www.scholastic.com/bf/zionlutheranschool4 This must be done prior to their class’ visit to the book fair in order to be utilized. Book Fair Hours Wednesday, 3/6 (Class Visit Day/ Ash Wednesday) 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, 3/7 (PS/ K Grandparents Day) 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday, 3/8 (1-8 Grandparents Day) 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Diary of An Awesomely Friendly Kid Pre-Sale Our students also have the opportunity to pre-order a specially priced paperback edition of Jeff Kinney’s new book series, Diary of An Awesome Friendly Kid: Rowley Jefferson’s Journal. To order your copy, complete the pre-sale form and either return it to your child’s teacher with payment (don’t forget the tax!) or send the order form with your student on their book fair day. Order Forms will come home on March 1st. The book is scheduled for release on 4/9/19, and the students should receive their copy within 5-7 days. Calling All Volunteers! Here's a few topics we are exploring:
Religion - Humiliation and Exaltation of Jesus!! That's looking at Christ's nature as true God and true Man, how he fulfilled the Law perfectly to be our substitute in His death and in glory defeated the devil in His resurrection. Science - Starting a new chapter on the elements and periodic table. Starting with the atom! English - Ending our unit on Pronouns soon and the research paper is quickly approaching! Lit. - Our nonfiction unit has included essays on African Americans in baseball and Jackie Robinson. We took time to study a bit of the Civil Rights Movement as we explored informational articles. I hope you take the opportunity to talk about important moments in history and how we are all equal in God's eyes. After our Civil Rights video we watched Speak Life by contemporary Christian artist, Toby Mac. We are now reading a Lincoln biography now (Happy Birthday, Abe!!) and will compare the style of writing to an autobiography of author Beverly Cleary. Thursday we got to see the sausage supper making! Kids got to touch the pig's head, eyeball, liver, kidneys, and heart! It was gross! Special Thanks! To our room moms for the Valentines Snacks! The kids had a great time socializing and enjoying the treats. Jump Rope for Heart: Donations for JRFH are due February 22nd. As of now, I have only four students who have donated. I know a lot of the kids like receiving some of the prizes that are offered with donations so be sure to have your child bring in their donation before the 26th! Box Tops: These are due February 22nd! Bring them in if you have any! Scholastic Books: Orders are due February 22nd! Be sure to order online or send in paper orders to me before then! When we came back on, Monday there was tons of chitter-chatter on our amazing ski trip. Everyone had a blast! This week we started a new unit on pronouns in English. In Religion, we talked about miracles & peaks. During Science we continued our chapter in solids, liquids, and gases. In Literature we read Zlata’s Diary and talked about types of organization & the Author’s purpose. In Social studies we wrote an essay while playing the role of a News Reporter. And that’s another AMAZING week in our AMAZING classroom with our AMAZING teacher! ~ Emma
GOD GIVES US WORTH! A special thank you to parents and grandparents for taking the time to be interviewed by your child this past weekend. You opened up a wonderful line of communication for your child to talk about these "growing up" years and the struggles we sometimes face with fitting in. Thank you for your openness. You are a great witness to share the importance of your relationship with God and the value He gives us as His children. Check out the Religion tab above to see what we are currently studying as we walk through the life of Christ. Valentine's Day We have a small celebration and social time with snacks provided by our room moms. We do NOT do a full class valentine exchange, but kids are welcome to bring valentines for the whole class if they wish. Remember, please do not bring candy to share. Also, students were informed of Zion's school-wide policy of no gift exchanges on campus. Please refer to the family handbook on Sycamore documents tab. Grandparent's Day Grandparents’ or Special Friends’ Day is scheduled for Friday, March 8th from 8:00-11:00. Please plan on having a grandparent or special guest attend. Your child must have an adult present. 8:00 - 8:30 AM Arrive anytime between 8:00 - 8:30 8:00 - 9:45 AM Guests and students stay together and spend time at various activities.
