This week was a short but fun week. We got Monday off for Martin Luther King Day. On Tuesday we acted out the final scene of Phantom Tollbooth in literature. Our wonderful strings played in chapel on Wednesday and they sounded great. Thursday was the coldest day of the month so far. On Friday we had a Spirit Day and worked on our art for next week. Next week will come before you know it and we’ll be back in school for National Lutheran Schools Week, so enjoy your weekend! Read books and finish your homework! ~Ella and Violet
FRIDAY will be a MOVIE DAY!! On Jan. 28 we will watch the movie version of the play we read: The Phantom Tollbooth. Kids can bring in a peanut-free snack and drink (soda allowed) to enjoy during the moving. What a great way to end National Lutheran Schools Week! Report Cards: Report cards will be sent home this next Friday. Due to many absences, teachers need a few extra days to gather assignments. With that being said, both Mrs. R and I are up to date and finished with second quarter. If you absolutely cannot wait for the physical report, you can check out Sycamore anytime to see your child's final quarter 2 grades. I will also be sending an AR report from 2nd quarter which includes the tests they took and how many points they received as well as results from our second STAR test this year. NLSW Next week is National Lutheran School's Week. We have some fun and safe activities for the kiddos and a lot of fun dress down days! Monday - Zoom Call Day Tuesday - Crazy Day Wednesday - PJ Day Thursday - Holiday Day Friday - Class Choice -- Parents, we are so excited about our class choice day. We decided to do Snow White and the 19 dwarves. I'll dress as snow white and the kids will pick on Monday which dwarf to be like. For example: Sleepy - PJs again, Sneezy - tissues galore, Doc - dress like a doctor, etc! JH Winter Dance The 2022 Winter Dance theme is Hollywood! The dance is scheduled for Friday, January 28th from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. The entry fee is five dollars per person, and if a student is dropped off, they cannot be picked up before the dance is over. Expect your student to wear something like jeans and a nice shirt (not incredibly formal). There are going to be teachers taking pictures, snacks, and music playing. The snacks may include CapriSuns, popcorn, gummy bears, and soda. Make sure that your student knows to be dropped off in front of the commons, the actual dance takes place in the gym, and that the doors will be open by seven. See ya there! Valentine's Day Party: Our Valentine's party this year will be on Friday, Feb 11. Just as a reminder, gift exchanges on Zion's campus are not allowed. If your child has a gift for a friend, please exchange off campus. Students are allowed to bring in Valentine's cards or trinkets for everyone in the class. It is not required and not many do at this age but if your kiddo wants to, fine by me! No candy allowed because of peanut allergies. We have 19 students in our homeroom class. We will have a fun party of games, snacks, and social time! We had a very fun week this week. It was the last week of the quarter and 3rd quarter will begin Tuesday, January 18, 2022. On Thursday we continued our art by adding magazine cut outs that describe our personalities. We had a sub on Friday and we send our prayers to Mrs. Donner that she will be ok for Tuesday. In literature we will be acting out the final scenes for ‘The Phantom Tollbooth’ and bring props that fit your group’s parts. Have a great weekend! ~ Ella and Eliana
All is well! Thanks for the prayers and support. The kiddos are so kind :) End of 2nd Q Students celebrate the halfway mark of 6th grade! I am so proud of their hard work. I see growth in so many ways. Teachers are finalizing grades, and report cards come home next Friday. It is a good time to sit down with your child and ask of what they are most proud. We are enjoying lessons on drama, adverbs, genetics, and how the Holy Spirit works in our lives. So much learning going on! NLSW Next week is National Lutheran School's Week. We have some fun and safe activities for the kiddos and a lot of fun dress down days!
Trivia Night - Postponed Today, Zion made the difficult decision to postpone trivia night. While we are disappointed, we believe it's for the best. Administration and the Trivia Committee are working on finding a new date later this calendar year, ideally in September or October. We will keep you updated and look forward to this night of fun and fellowship at a later date. JH Winter Dance The 2022 Winter Dance theme is Hollywood! We had a great back to school week! We all got to pick new jobs! There is a new art project this week where we paper mache our own hands! We had fun while doing it but it was also stressful. There was a new game in gym class which we all had fun playing. In science we have been learning about cancer, and we got to make a cancer presentation with a partner. We also had a science test, and a G-math quiz. We did not have a ton of homework this week which was very nice. We had second step with Mrs. Donner and we learned about being assertive. We sadly had to take down our Christmas decorations. Thank you for listening to our blog! ~ Eliana and Summer
We had a full week filled with activities! Here is what we did! We started Second Steps back up on Thursday morning learning about communicating assertively. We identified different body language cues, facial expressions, and tones that show three types of communication: passive, aggressive, and assertive. We learned that being assertive helps us to stay respectful when communicating but also helps us to stand up for what we want. We practiced being assertive too.
