We had another great week in 6th grade! To start the week, we finished our poetry unit. A lot of students were not looking forward to starting our unit in poetry but by the end, they were writing really amazing poems! Be sure to ask them about it! On Monday wee held a Poetry Slam. The students were able to research a poet and look for all of the elements we had studied in his or her work. It was neat to see the variety of poetry chosen.
Tuck Everlasting WHAT IF YOU COULD LIVE FOREVER???? In Literature, students have begun the novel, Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. Kids are leading small group discussions in "book club" format, with the roles of Discussion Director, Connector, Illustrator, and Word Wizard. We will be exploring the literary elements of foreshadowing, character development, motive, and universal theme as the characters ponder the benefits and downfalls of living forever. It will be exciting to look at the novel through the eyes of faith as we discussed God's original design in Eden as well as our eternal life in the heavenly home he has prepared for us. Students are discovering the blessings God gives us in this life through the many stages we live and even more blessings to be received in eternity with Him! We will culminate the novel with creative projects. 7th Grade Electives Check for an email from Zion that came earlier this week about signing up for electives. We had an EXCELLENT time at Camp yesterday! The weather was perfect and the kids had a blast! I came home with a smile and sunburn :)
Thank you, parent chaperones, for driving and participating in the events. We couldn't have done it without you. 6th grade is truly grateful for your help! Parents, there will be some sort of slideshow/file with all pictures that we will share by the end of next week with pictures from Camp Wartburg. The pictures I have are limited to only a certain few students since they were in my group. I will post them below and also include them in the slideshow/file. Spring Dance 2022 Student Council would like to let you know in advance the details of this year's Junior High Spring Dance. The dance will take place on May 6 from 7:00 to 9:30PM. The theme for this dance will be glow in the dark/neon, and students can dress up to fit this theme by wearing a neon or white t-shirt with a pair of jeans or sweats! Junior High students must pay a five dollar entry fee, must go to Zion Lutheran School to attend, and are not permitted to leave until the dance is over. They are allowed to bring phones but we ask that they put them away after the first forty-five minutes have passed so that we can have some fun! We are excited to host another successful dance this year! Best Choice At the beginning of May, we welcome an educator from Best Choice to lead our Religion classes. Through this program, students will be involved in active discussions about setting goals, healthy relationships, puberty, and making God-pleasing decisions. The Best Choice program is designed to encourage children to make lifelong commitments to building relationships, making informed choices, choosing abstinence before marriage, and avoiding risky behaviors. Mrs. Riemenschneider and I will participate in the classes and continue follow up discussions. A permission slip will come home MONDAY, APRIL 25 to sign and return for your child to participate. To help you prepare for discussions with your child at home, here are the topics Best Choice has used in the past. I will update you daily with our discussions. Classes start Monday, May 9. I pray that you use these as opportunities to open the dialogue with your child and share your values with them. Research shows parents are still the number one influence on their teens! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Jesus Completes Our Salvation
Our Religion unit is not merely the focal point of all of our studies of our Christian faith this year; it is also the focus of the entire Bible. And by God’s grace, it is also the focus of our entire lives! Our studies in math and science and social studies are essential for daily life; but it is in our study of Scripture that all these blessings find their true purpose and meaning through life in Christ. God blesses us with intelligence and abilities and talents, and He guides us to use these for our personal welfare—it is true. But He also desires that we use these blessings for the good of others and for the glory of the Lord. Our focus in this unit has been on Holy Week and the events surrounding it. Here, we see God’s covenant promises coming together and being fulfilled in Christ Jesus. We cannot save ourselves; only Jesus could do that for us, because He is the sinless Son of God. Amazingly, He is also our substitute! He gives His victory to us! Jesus suffered all things, died on the cross, and rose at Easter to complete our salvation. It is finished! He offers us the gifts of forgiveness and eternal life through His loving grace and mercy. May God bless your family time this EASTER SEASON with the assurance from Jesus that... In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where i am, you may be also. John 14:2-3 We are watching The Week That Changed the World. Check it out! We certainly had an amazing week! Our field trip was a success! The kids had a great time looking at clues to figure out which animal attacked a deer and when it died. They also looked at clues to find the hunter that poached animals! They were able to study fingerprints, boot tracks, and figure out blood types. It was very interesting! Afterwards, we were able to walk the half mile trail (when it was warm for just a little!). Thank you again to the parent chaperones. We couldn't have done it without ya! I think the kids had a great time and it is definitely a field trip we are considering for the future. Check out the pictures below! On Tuesday, we also got to participate in our Walkathon part 2 service project. Phil from Phil's Friends came to Zion and talked about his story and his organization. We then were able to decorate boxes that would be packed and sent to people with cancer. The kids had a lot of fun sharing their love with others. This week alone Phil's organization had 140 requests for boxes. Last week was 250. They never turn down a request! It was such a honor to be able to help them. Next Field Trip: Our next field trip will be to Camp Wartburg on April 22 (two weeks!). We sent home permission forms today so be on the lookout for those. They are due Tuesday next week. Let me know if you want to chaperone if you haven't already. Reminders: No school Friday, 4/15 (Good Friday) No school Monday, 4/18 (Easter Monday) Research Papers due Tuesday, 4/19!!!!! They need a clear report cover too!!! |
