From class blogger, Mackenzie:
This week our class had classes like we normally do. Although on Thursday the seventh grade and eighth grade classes were gone. So for english class we went to Mr. Braddy’s classroom and then put it back the way it was, so that he did not know we were even there! When lunch came, since we were the only people in the building, the sixth grade classes went to lunch early and had a longer recess. Then for science class we went outside because it was such a beautiful day outside. When we finished our science homework we got to have an extra recess! Then at the end of the day we all went home soon to return to school the next morning. Thursday certainly was a fun day because sixth grade ruled the school! This past week was known as Field Trip week because 5th, 7th, and 8th graders were all out on field trips from Wednesday to Friday. We get to enjoy our field trip soon on May 11th! Watch for those permission slips to come home! It is pretty exciting to say that we are beginning our last units for the year! Here is what is up next: Science: Genetics English: Cumulative review for grammar Lit: Finishing our Tuck Everlasting novel and then doing some fables/mythology! Religion: Jesus's ascension into heaven and his disciples spreading God's love Art: Windball! I can't believe that 7 weeks have already past but the research paper has come to the end! We will celebrate our hard work on Monday with snacks and drinks while reading and talking about our papers with one another. The kids worked SO HARD on these and I am excited to read them too! Make sure you check them out if you haven't already (and don't forget to return library materials ;) ) One last note about this week: we started 2nd steps up again and only have a few lessons to go! This past week we learned about drugs again, specifically alcohol and inhalants. We talked about how they can ruin our hopes and plans for the future as well as the dangers they have on our bodies, especially at this young age!

I'll be keeping it short and sweet this week and I apologize for no pictures :(
We finished our poetry unit this week! A lot of students were not looking forward to starting our unit in poetry but by the end, they were writing really amazing poems! Be sure to ask them about it! Our next Literature unit is a novel study on the book Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. We will be doing a lot of journal writing as well as meeting in book clubs as we read this book! We are exploring the literary elements of foreshadowing, character development, motive, and universal theme as the characters ponder the benefits and downfalls of living forever. It is exciting to look at the novel through the eyes of faith as we will discuss God's original design in Eden as well as our eternal life in the heavenly home He has prepared for us. Students are discovering the blessings God gives us in this life through the many stages we live and even more blessings to be received in eternity with Him! We will culminate the novel with creative projects. MAY FIELD TRIP - SAVE THE DATEFriday, May 11 will be our Lutheran Heritage Field Trip. This is an extended day, arriving at 6:40am and returning by 5:30pm that evening. Please mark your calendars accordingly. We will be studying immigration, genealogy, and the history of Lutherans in our area. Our day will include a trip t the Altenburg Museum and Saxon Lutheran Memorial in Frohna, MO. This is a colonial homestead where students will learn about the first Lutheran settlers, tour the homestead, and have an opportunity for trying chores such as laundry and grinding corn. Our day includes seeing the first Concordia Seminary and a one room schoolhouse. Thanks to a generous sponsorship from the PTL, we are able to take a charter bus for the trip. Watch for permission slips to come home next week! I am still looking for another parent to join us for the trip! Scholastic Book Order:I am doing two more orders for this year so be sure to order any books for the summer! I am ordering next on April 27th. Place your order by 7pm with our class code R6TZX. The last order will be on May 14th! Midquarter: Midquarter was Friday! We only have a few weeks left this year! Have your child check Sycamore for their grades and help them set goals to finish this year with a bang! And don't forget...AR is 1/3 of the Literature grade! These next weeks will fly by so be sure that your child is reading lots! It has been a good week! We thank Ms. Medrona and Ms. Ambria from Thrive: Best Choice for being our guest educators this week. It was great for our students to interact with young adults who care about them and were such great witnesses!
RESEARCH PAPERS UNDER CONSTRUCTION: The first draft of the research paper is due Tuesday. This might be a good time to check in with your child have see how things are going. Read over their draft and help them use the "read aloud" technique to see if ideas flow and sentences make sense. Junior High Dance: All Junior High students are invited to attend the Spring dance on Friday, April 20 in the school commons. This is a casual gathering and a great time for the kids to hang out with their peers. You can drop off at the Gym lobby doors at 7:00pm and return for pickup at 9:30pm. The entry fee is $6. We are on the final stretch of school! Encourage your child to stay focused and work hard until the final days. I know they will do well and have a great rest of sixth grade! How exciting it is that we got to spend all week discussing Holy Week in Religion! We talked about God's covenant promises and how Jesus fulfilled them! We cannot save ourselves; only Jesus could do that for us, because He is the sinless Son of God. Amazingly, He is also our substitute! He gives His victory to us!
I hope you all had an amazing and blessed Easter and that you have a nice, relaxing Spring Break as well! Best Choice begins on Monday, April 9 at 8:15 a.m. Students will not want to miss the first lesson! RENEW YOUR LIBRARY BOOKS Students were allowed to leave their books for the research paper at school, but don't forget to renew them this week!! Lutheran Heritage Field Trip May 11 Our next field trip is an extended day. Doors open at 6:30am for early arrival, devotions, and final instruction and we return to campus by 5:30pm. We thank PTL for their generous sponsorship of a charter bus for this trip. PARENT CHAPERONES ARE NEEDED. Please check your schedule and volunteer. A current background check needs to be on file. We will be studying immigration and the history of Lutherans in our area. Our day will include a trip to the Altenburg Museum and Saxon Lutheran Memorial in Frohna, MO.
