We survived our first full week of E-learning. God is Good! He is helping us navigate new territory and keeping our community safe. Whatever the devil and this world throws our way we know, "I can do all things through him who gives me strength!" Phil 4:13
Students are getting daily check-in email and To Do lists on Monday and Wednesday. Friday is a scheduled Lit Book Club Google hangout but otherwise a "catchup" day with no new HW. Send me emails or please call me with questions. Let us know if you need more support. If you need another device at home, Zion still has some you can sign out. Some of your children will need you to sit down and help them make a plan for their "school" day. Others are more independent. If your child is spending more than 3-4 hours on "school" in a day, they may need help. We are giving 3 assignments in each core area a week (Religion, Math, English, Lit, SS, Sci) My favorite sentence for students: Google is not your teacher!! (They keep asking about their score when Google scores a form. Google can't account for misspellings, capitals, or variations of an answer). TRUST US - teachers are looking at assignments and generously grading them. We want them all to succeed!! Zion's Chapel: We hope you tuned in to the Lenten Service yesterday on the zionharvester.org if not you can go back and watch it at anytime. As we work towards the closer of our first week of e-Learning here is a chapel service you and your family can enjoy together. https://youtu.be/iHB5RWNAed8 AR Tests from home

Parents - I will still update my blog but they will obviously be much shorter with less information since there aren't many things going on right now at school!
Thank you to our wonderful students and parents who have been active online, answering emails, and asking questions. No one could have imagined what our world is going through or that we would be holding Zion classes this way. We all need to work together and come together as one to fight this nasty disease and move on with our lives! We may need to rethink how we study, learn, shop, and interact with one another, but we have God who loves us very much and is in control!! I love and miss you! THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: Most of the kiddos are doing a fabulous job checking emails, asking questions, and staying in touch. It is so crucial that they keep this up and continue to learn. I know we usually don't use emails but this is the best avenue of communication between student and teacher. PLEASE remind your child to check their emails every week day. They will definitely have at least one email from me a day. Thanks for your help and support. Need books?? With the libraries closed right now, don't forget online check out and audio books. I will place a Scholastic Book Order on Wednesday, 3/25. I will get the books to you at home when they arrive, delivery style! Here are the 6th grade flyers. Kids - I will honor your $5 Christmas coupons. Just email me the title. AR Tests Link from home Again, do not hesitate to ask questions. Thanks a bunch!! This week was full of learning! We watched The Miracle Worker in Literature and learned all about Helen Keller and the amazing way she was taught to use language. We also have been learning about States of Matter. In English, we have started the research paper and are now reading our resources to take notes! The kids seem excited about their topics and have learned ways to find credible sources online as well as helpful tips to narrow their searches as well. We are wraped up a study of JESUS as TRUE GOD and TRUE MAN digging deeper into his miracles and parables.
In Faith Families on Wednesday, we celebrated Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month by looking at Psalm 139:13-14. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, your works are wonderful, I know that full well. We also watched a video showing us that people who have disabilities asking to be included. We need to be aware that God has created us all and we are different. All people want to feel included and important. We then put together Birthday Boxes for Bethesda. These boxes include everything for a birthday party. The` boxes will be taken to various Bethesda group homes in the St. Louis area that care for our brothers and sisters with different abilities. We thanked God for all birthdays by celebrating Baptismal Birthdays for March and April. Report cards came home on Friday. Be sure to look them over with your child and set goals for fourth quarter! We are on the final stretch, they can do it! English class started Research Reports and Science has begun a study of cells. In Religion, we are beginning our study of the Passion of our Lord. Lots of learning yet in 6th grade!! Achievement Testing: Achievement Testing starts the week of March 30! Zion has shifted to the Iowa Basic Skills tests and will be testing through their online system. Encourage your child to get good rest and eat breakfast each day! Scholastic Book Orders: Due Wednesday, March 25th. Order up! This Monday we had a regular day, same with Tuesday. On Wednesday we had a special speaker to talk about disabilities, and what it’s like to teach them. Thursday is like our regular Friday because on Friday we had Grandparents day! ~Grace H and Emily
This week was a busy one since it is the end of Quarter 3! One more quarter to go! We ended the week with Grandparent's Day/Special Friend's Day. I was delighted to meet a lot of grandmas and grandpas and show off the classroom! Thanks to all grandparents and special guests who made our day extra special! We had a wonderful message in chapel based on Lauren Daigle's song "Rescue" - reminding students of whose they are and how the special people in their life influence them. The 7th graders led skits on daily life and reminders of God's love for us from Isaiah and Psalms passages. In Literature this week, we learned about disabilities. On Tuesday, we learned about auditory disabilities. We practiced sign language as well as lipreading! On Wednesday, my mom, Laurie Preusser, came to class to talk about her job as a teacher of the deaf. She works at the Moog Center and works with toddlers who have hearing aids or cochlear implants and teaches them to talk. The kids were amazed at her job! On Thursday, we learned about blindness and had to lead a partner down the hall who was blindfolded! After washing hands, they had to come back to the classroom, butter a cracker, and eat it! It was so fun but also eye-opening (pun intended) to understand what people with disabilities go through! Report Cards: They will come home on Friday, March 13. Be aware that teachers are processing grades and Sycamore will not be up to date before Tuesday or later. If your child was sick the last two weeks, double check with them that they submitted all absent work! Scholastic Book Orders: Due by March 25th! |
