I have been really enjoying this weather lately! It is so sunny and cheery and allows me to get outside and do other things other than sit at home. Now today is a different story…
I’ve been working hard at my house! There are lots of little projects here and there to do and I’m sure they will never end… But it’s been really fun! Here is what we are during during our E-learning days! English: Final touches on Research paper - Due Wednesday S.S.: Europe Webquest - We will be learning about the European Union and how to analyze political cartoons Sci: Up next: A Study of Light T-Math: testing on ratios and moving into +/- integers G-Math: testing on statistics and moving into Geometry Literature: Sharing our Tuck Projects and testing on the novel. Up next: Greek Mythology Religion: Finishing our study of Jesus' Passion with a collaborative ABC project Since Friday papers don't come home, your child has been seeing a lot of scores on Google classroom. Have them show you their work. Sycamore will be updated again on Monday as teachers are doing a lot of grading right now. Updates: information will be sent home on May 4 with lots of things about end of the year. Mr. Marolf and Mr. Debrick will send instructions on how to pick up and drop off supplies as well as gather any awards and other end-of-the-year items. Once you receive that email, let us know if you have any questions. At this time, that’s all teachers know. Strings: is your child interested in being a part of Strings at Zion? Maybe they want to try a new instrument? Watch this video from Mrs. Holtz, our strings teacher. (click on it) https://drive.google.com/a/zionharvester.org/file/d/1Mo3B7s8fbFlSLz53DT_aS-iLb5vpIPGs/view?usp=drive_web Electives: In addition to being a part of the strings group, sixth graders have the choice next year going into seventh grade on which elective they will choose for fifth hour during the day. Some of their choices still include band and choir but they can also choose to try speech and debate or computer science. Mr. Marolf will send information about electives next week as well. Start talking to your child about what kind of class they would want to take in seventh grade. Best Choice: This past week would have been the week where the company Best Choice visited Zion to teach students about growing up. We are sad that they had to miss these important talks and so we decided to include the lesson plans for you to view if you would want to talk about these topics with your student. Topics include risky behaviors, unhealthy relationships, puberty, STD’s, and more which are all developmentally appropriate for sixth graders and are important for them to learn, know, and understand. Let us know if you have questions. There are also some great resources and books here (https://search.cph.org/search#w=sex%20ed) if you would like to purchase a book to guide your discussions. Best Choice Lesson Plans will be in the email.

Jesus Completes Our SalvationOur Religion unit is not merely the focal point of all of our studies of our Christian faith this year; it is also the focus of the entire Bible. And by God’s grace, it is also the focus of our entire lives! Our studies in math, science, and social studies are essential for daily life; but it is in our study of Scripture that all these blessings find their true purpose and meaning through life in Christ. God blesses us with intelligence and abilities and talents, and He guides us to use these for our personal welfare—it is true. But He also desires that we use these blessings for the good of others and for the glory of the Lord.
Our focus has been on Holy Week and the events surrounding it. Here, we see God’s covenant promises coming together and being fulfilled in Christ Jesus. We cannot save ourselves; only Jesus could do that for us, because He is the sinless Son of God. Amazingly, He is also our substitute! He gives His victory to us! Jesus suffered all things, died on the cross, and rose at Easter to complete our salvation. It is finished! He offers us the gifts of forgiveness and eternal life through His loving grace and mercy. May the comfort and assurance of God’s grace be the very center of your family life together! Special thanks to Pastor Hoehner for leading our livestream Bible study and Pastors Fieberkorn, Reitz, and Rouland for recording introductions to each of our lessons. May God bless your family time this EASTER SEASON with the assurance from Jesus that... In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am, you may be also. John 14:2-3 Scholastic Book Orders: I will place another order tomorrow if any students need books to read over spring break. They could potentially come early next week and I will deliver the books to your doors! Let me know! Accelerated Reader: If you are wondering how many points your child has, email me and I will let you know. I plan on sending individual emails after Spring Break for kids who don't have many. We are still counting AR during E-learning so encourage them to read! Tuck Everlasting: The students finished the novel Tuck Everlasting this past week and seemed to really enjoy it! There is a movie and it is available FOR RENT on YouTube and Amazon. This could be another fun activity to do during Spring Break! Send me any pictures of the students watching. (Click on the links!) Pictures in General: Send me lots of pictures of your Spring Break activities so that I can post on the blog next week and so that the students can see what their friends were doing! They all miss each other lot and I miss them too! Week 2 of E-Learning is complete! I am so so proud of the students and their hard work. This week definitely went smoother than last and I look forward to next week which will be even better! Thank you, parents, for your constant love and support to teachers but especially to your kiddos. It takes a village!
**YouTube and Video Update** Please make sure students have a device with less restrictions to watch some of the videos Mrs. R and I post for classes. If they are struggling, try to help them with the videos. Thanks! Next week is Holy Week! Sunday, we see Jesus declaring himself not only our King, but the promised Messiah. On Maundy Thursday we see the remarkable transformation of the Passover into Holy Communion. Jesus himself became our saving Lamb of sacrifice. Honor the Good Friday on which Christ died for our sins and the temple veil was torn in two. The separation that sin had caused between us and our Lord is no more. And finally the glorious day of resurrection, EASTER, when we celebrate our victory in Christ over sin, death and the devil. There is nothing we could ever do to deserve this love. What a wonderful opportunity we have before us to learn and grow in our faith to praise and thank God for this glorious gift!! To see a clip from The Gospel of Matthew which we are using in Religion, click this link. Palm Sunday begins at about 5 min 20 sec. We have been so blessed to have had our Pastoral staff lead our students into our Passion of the Christ unit by video. Click here to see Pastor Hoehner's devotion for us today. E-Learning - How's it going for you? I love connecting with your children - seeing their faces on hangouts and reading their journals. How are you??? Please take 5 minutes to complete a quick feedback survey for Mrs. Riemenschneider and me. We want to find the best ways to support you and your family! https://forms.gle/iAKgsUWcn62MoBX99 BIG NEWS Pastor Hoehner, will lead our class in a LiveStream religion class on WEDNESDAY, 4/8 at 10:00. He will be using Facebook Live. Kids will need to be on a parent facebook account and to "like" Chapel of the Cross's FB page. Please get this set up this weekend and set your alarms. I am still waiting to be sure I have the correct location of the broadcast before I send a link. I am so excited that the Zion pastor's and Asher's dad have been able to help lead us through Holy Week.
