And the last week has ended and that’s a wrap for sixth grade! What an exciting and quick year we had! I am already missing all of my kiddos and I hope they have a wonderful summer break!
We had quite a different week this week! There was a lot of cleaning, socializing, and saying goodbyes. On Monday we got to eat snowcones and go to Great Skate! Tuesday and Wednesday were irregular due to cleaning and watching movies like Hercules and Tuck Everlasting. On Thursday we had the chapel and awards ceremony to close out the year. This year has been an awesome first year of teaching with your children! I am so grateful to have had all of them in my class and the opportunity to teach them and learn with them every single day! I wanted to say thank you to all the parents for your help and support throughout the year. Without you guys, the year would not have ran as smoothly as it did. I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers this year! I’m especially thankful that I had the opportunity to have your child in my class and to have many experiences with them as well! Have a fantastic summer and good luck to your now seventh graders!! They grow up so fast!

I seriously do believe this was the fastest week of them all!!
We wrapped up a lot of units this week with many quizzes, tests, and homeworks. You kids put in a lot of hard week, especially knowing it was the second to last week of school. In Literature, we have been discussing oral traditions which includes folk tales, fables, and myths. This week, we looked at Greek mythology and have read many of the stories! They are quite interesting! For Art this week, we studied photography. We learned about the different composition styles such as perspective, angle, "S" or "C" curves, pattern, and much more. Students were able to go around Zion's campus to take pictures on iPads of these different styles. They are now creating a pic collage of these photos and will share with the class on Monday! SO fun! As you may know, research papers were sent home this week. I will say, I was very impressed! The kids put in a lot of hard work and effort into these papers so be sure to check it out! During the seven weeks, students practiced writing transition sentences, adding internal citations, paraphrasing, and of course, following directions all to finish up their papers with proud smiles on their faces. I am very happy with the results and you al should be proud as well! Friday was Faith Family Field Day and even though the rain kept us inside, we had TONS of fun!! We played lots of games like bingo, scattegories, hula hoop races, tic tac toe races, cupside down, and atomic waste. We also did a craft and a STEAM activity as well. We finished the day off with chapel and our faith families one last time. It was a fun Friday for sure. I have pics from my faith family, but I encourage you to find your child's teacher's blog to see their pictures! Reminders: 1. The last week of school, students will need to pack a cold lunch. Mrs. Boettcher will have some goodies for sale as we clean out the kitchen for the summer. 2. On Monday is our Great Skate field trip. Students can wear JEANS, SCHOOL PANTS/SHORTS, LONG JEAN SHORTS, AND ZION TSHIRT. Please no leggings or skirts this day. 3. Thursday is the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! WHAT! School is dismissed at 10am. 4. We WILL have PE on Wednesday, but not Monday. Prepare for a lot of things to come home like folders, notebooks, papers, supplies, etc. If you know your child has supplies that you would like to donate to Zion, let me or your child know! We use extra supplies for the summer camp here at Zion so we definitely appreciate it! Sorry about the length of this post! I am already getting sappy as I think about the end of the year quickly approaching. I'm sure next week's post will be a huge sap fest. Prepare... Our field trip was a success! We had a lot of fun being together and learning about the first Lutheran settlers in Missouri.
We started out in one of the first Lutheran churches in Altenburg. We learned about the immigrants coming to Missouri and saw a lot of cool stuff in the museum including organs that we got to play! We also were able to search through our ancestry and learn about our family trees. We also saw the first Lutheran school. It was TINY! Next, we took our charter bus to the Saxon Memorial and got to play outside and make our own pizza! The pizza was cooked in a brick oven that we were able to see as well. After a great lunch break, we experienced what life was like when the first settlers came to Missouri. We churned butter, shelled corn, and widdled some wood. Lastly, we saw schoolhouse where four different grades were taught all by the same teacher. The room was spacious and old fashioned. Very cute! Check out the pictures below! The kids did a great job on the field trip. They were very well behaved and had a fun time being together. I liked going on this trip at the end of the year because it is one of our last big chances to spend quality time together! I will miss them!! Next week is the second to last week of classes! The days are going to start getting weird as things are ending and other things are happening. Expect a lot of tests/quizzes next week! Faith Family Field Day: Coming up fast on Friday, May 18! Make sure your child has the proper equipment like sunscreen, a water bottle, towel, hat, and anything else they might need. I am looking forward to it! Lunch is provided. AR is due Monday by 3pm!!! Double check to see if your child has all of their points because it is worth 1/3 of their Lit grade! Almost everyone has their 16 points!! Great Skate: Students should have shown you a PINK field trip permission form to go to Great Skate on Monday of the last week of school. The form is due Wednesday the 16th. Please make sure they get to me in time because we need to plan for the field trip the following two days! Thanks! LAST SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDER: Tuesday, May 15 by 7pm please! NO HOT LUNCH The last week of school, students will need to pack a cold lunch. Mrs. Boettcher will have some goodies for sale as we clean out the kitchen for the summer. This week went by quickly! We started the week off by celebrating the end of the research paper! The students were treated with cupcakes, chips, and soda while talking with their friends. They worked so hard the last seven weeks! They earned it!
In science, we have been talking about genetics. We are practicing filling out Punnett Squares to see what possible genes an organism could have based on their parents genes. Currently, students are creating monsters based on their mom and dad monster. I can't wait to see how they turn out! Faith Family Event: We meet as Faith Family once a month to pray and do an activity. During the prayer time this year we have been focusing on spending 5 minutes each day praying. Our activity this month was based on 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Be Thankful in ALL Circumstances. We wrote thank you notes to the many volunteers that help our school. We ending our time celebrating baptism birthdays for May and June. We look forward to our last Faith Family event, FIELD DAY! Year End Field Trip Our big class trip is FRIDAY! Contact me with any other questions. (repeat) Friday, May 11 will be our Lutheran Heritage Field trip. This is an extended day, arriving at 6:40 a.m. and returning at 5:30 p.m. that evening. Please mark your calendars accordingly. We will be studying immigration, genealogy, and the history of Lutherans in our area. Our day will include a trip to the Altenburg Museum and Saxon Lutheran Memorial in Frohna, MO. This is a colonial homestead where students will learn about the first Lutheran settlers, tour the homestead, and have an opportunity for trying chores such as laundry and grinding corn. Our day includes seeing the first Concordia Seminary and a one room schoolhouse. Field Day! On Friday, May 18th, students in grades 1-8 will participate in a “Faith Family Field Day." We will eat a picnic lunch, play games, and have one last fun time with our Faith Families! Zion will be providing cheese pizza from Domino's, goldfish and water for the picnic lunch. If your child does not want that lunch or is unable to eat that lunch due to allergies, please have your child bring a cold lunch on Friday, May 18th. Your child will also be spending the afternoon out in the sun, so please apply sunscreen in the morning before your child comes to school. This will also be a SPECIAL SPIRIT DAY your child may wear a Zion/LHS t-shirt and non uniform bottoms! Thanks! Second Step: We wrapped up our Second Step lessons reviewing the character skills we have learned all year. Students created skits on every day decision using one character as the "conscience" who narrated the skills they would use: seeing another's perspective, disagreeing respectfully, pausing and calming down, being an ally, thinking of the consequences, and many more. As we shared skits, we remembered we also have the skill of prayer and the true conscience that guides us is the Holy Spirit who empowers us to show love and concern for others and make God-pleasing choices. |
