Week 6 is complete! Here is what we did!
In the afternoon on Friday, we held our Walkathon! Weather was interesting. It sprinkled, and rained, and then stopped multiple times throughout the afternoon. The kids powered through and still ran or walked lots of miles! Our class total mileage was about 149 miles!! The kids really enjoyed this event and were excited to raise money for two great causes! The donations are due by September 30th so your kids can still try to raise money up until then! Look for a small manila envelope that students brought home Friday to fill up with the donations! Pics below! Tip of the Week: Double check that your child is emptying out his or her Friday Folder each Friday. I've noticed that some of these folders are PACKED with papers from previous weeks. Go through these papers with your child and notice all of the hard work they have put into this first quarter so far! (And then keep the papers at home!) REMINDERS: - Picture retake day is October 14th - Trunk or Treat is October 14th

This week, 6th grade had many tests! We had a religion test, literature, science, and memory! Some students had a STUCO meeting on Tuesday. In social studies, we are making our own acting script! Then we are going to show it to the class. We finished our POP art, and now we are starting up optical illusion art.
We are collecting money/pledges for our walk-a-thon! Everything we get, we are gonna donate to Kimber Cares. The money helps make an outdoor classroom in honor of our 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Graham, who died of cancer in 2020. Anything helps! ~ Stella and Evan Here are our current units: Religion: The structure of the Bible and God's covenant promises English: WRITING personal narratives and Chapter 2: Nouns Literature: Fiction and Nonfiction with an emphasis on fact/opinion and symbolism Science: Starting a new chapter called Principles of Ecology MID QUARTER GRADES AND FRIDAY PAPERS Mid-Quarter was this past Friday! With this in mind, take a minute to check your child's grades. They should be all up to date by Monday at the end of the day. If you question a grade, please make sure to ask your child first before contacting me. There is a 99.9% chance they already know why a grade is the way it is. Also, keep in mind that if a student has more than 2 D's, they are ineligible to play any sports. Tests or quizzes have occurred in each subject in the last 2 weeks. You should be seeing these come home in Friday papers. Monday evening would be a good time to get on Sycamore with your child, celebrate successes and set goals. As you look through Friday papers together, ask what they are most proud of or excited about. A goal could be following directions more carefully, asking questions, or using neat handwriting. Tests and grades are one measure of your child’s progress. They can be an indicator of study skills and organization, as well of stronger/weaker areas in their learning. But grades are not a measure of who we are - we are children of God and we receive our worth in Him!! Other Info

Science Wish List Link Another fantastic week is behind us! This week flew by and I think the kiddos had a lot of fun!
In Religion this week, the students started defining Law and Gospel and what the differences are between the two. This Wednesday was our first week sitting in Chapel with our Faith Family. This is a group of students from all grades 1-8 and a teacher. We build relationships through chapel, activities, service, and prayer. This week we had our first faith family prayer time. We played some fun ice breakers to get to know our group and then had some prayer time together. We then returned to chapel to celebrate Baptismal Remembrance for July and August. In Literature, the students wrote a point of view essay taking the view of another character in the story, "Drive In Movies." They came up with some very creative stories while taking on the role as a side character from the story! I encourage you to read them! Junior High Walkathon On Thursday morning, we had our Walkathon kickoff. Ask the kids what they will be doing for this awesome event! If they can't remember, here is the low down. Our Walkathon is going to be September 23rd. The kids have to find people who will pledge a certain amount of money for every mile that child runs/walks or collect a lump donation. We are raising money for Kimber Cares this year. On the day of the Walkathon, we will be outside from about 12:30 to 2:30 walking and running laps! There will be a water/popsicle station, snack shack, and lots of other free and fun goodies the kids will get! It will be an awesome day! PRAY FOR GREAT WEATHER! If you have any questions about this event, let me know! Look for a letter and envelope to come home Tuesday/Wednesday of next week! ART If you stop in, make sure to check out the hallways downstairs in Junior High! We have started to display artwork and other fun projects we have worked on this year so far! REMINDERS: 1. Don't forget to remind your child to bring chapel offering each week if they feel so inclined :) 2. Make sure your kid is reading every day! AR is due October 17th and they need 16 points! I have seen a couple of kids take quizzes but it is always good to be reading each and every day! 3. Help your child stay organized by going through their binder at least once a week! NEW: Zion Spirit Days An exciting new change is coming to Zion starting next Friday, September 9th! Every Friday will be a Spirit Day so students may wear spirit shirts. Dress bottoms are required.
