We had a great and full week for once! The kids are learning lots and having fun doing it! We read "The Platoon System" which is an excerpt from Beverly Clearly's autobiography all about her 7th grade year. The kids loved comparing school then versus school today. Back then, schools believed that there should be no creativity or fun while learning. Students agreed that they are better off today in school rather than back then!
On Tuesday, we got to watch the Spelling Bee. Sam and Abby were our class's participants and they did an excellent job! Congrats to Evelyn R. in 8th grade for being our school's champion! On Wednesday, the students had to write a letter to themselves that will be sent to them once they graduate high school. They are very excited to tell their future selves all about their lives in 6th grade, including their favorite video games, best friends, and of course, Covid-19 craziness. In English, students are finishing up their realistic fiction stories which I am very excited to read! In Science, we are moving on to a new chapter about food and digestion! Lastly, in 2nd Step, we learned about our emotions and why we lose control sometimes. Then we learned 3 steps to take to stay in control - notice, pause, and think twice. The students should be asking you about anger and how you control it! SPORTS TEAM PHOTOS These will be during the school day Wednesday. Please be sure athletic jerseys are sent to school that day for any winter sports. Fall sports will be given jerseys before the pictures. Cheerleaders may come to school dressed for the photo. No school Friday, March 5. Our class is preparing a video that gives our grandparents and special friends "A Peek into 6th Grade." We hope to have it done to send out next Friday. Our Book Fair will take place in a virtual format this year. Watch for information about dates. Clorox Wipes We are starting to need more disinfectant wipes soon! Our supply is starting to dwindle. If you happen to have any extra at home or don't mind grabbing one at the store when you are out, 6th grade would greatly appreciate it!!! Thanks so much!

This week we only had 2 day of school, so you can imagine it went by super fast. Mrs. Donner and Maddy were finally able to return back to school from quarantine which is exciting. Next week we have an English test on Wednesday. So make sure to study and fill out your study guide. To help us study we played a fun game of Kahoot! In G-Math we took a test on how to divide, multiply, add and subtract unlike fractions, add and subtract mixed numbers, and divide mixed numbers. And we had a fun way to learn about ratios… with… FRUIT LOOPS! We even had enough to share with T-Math. In T-Math we took a pre-quiz to prepare for the test on Monday, It is about fractions. In Religion we learned about the transfiguration. We still are learning more about it. On Friday we read 3 different versions of it from Matthew 17, Mark 9, and Luke 9. We had our turn in the gym for Kids Heart Challenge this week on Thursday! There was knockout, helicopter, double dutch, hoola hoops, and a big jump rope! Also we can’t forget our spelling bee contestants from our 6th Grade class.... Sam and Abby! The Spelling Bee is on Tuesday at 9am. ~ Alanna and Caroline

A special thank you to parents and grandparents for taking the time to be interviewed by your child this past week. You opened up a wonderful line of communication for your child to talk about these "growing up" years and the struggles we sometimes face with fitting in. Thank you for your openness. You are a great witness to share the importance of your relationship with God and the value He gives us as His children. Check out the Religion tab above to see what we are currently studying as we walk through the life of Christ. Here's a few topics we are exploring: Religion - The Ministry of Jesus - his miracles and spreading God's love to ALL. Science - Bones, Muscles, and Skin English - Ending our unit on Pronouns soon and the research paper is quickly approaching! Lit. - Our nonfiction unit has included essays on African Americans in baseball and Jackie Robinson. We took time to study a bit of the Civil Rights Movement as we explored informational articles. I hope you take the opportunity to talk about important moments in history and how we are all equal in God's eyes. After our Civil Rights video we watched Speak Life by contemporary Christian artist, Toby Mac. Special Thanks! To our room moms for the Valentine's nachos and cake pops! The kids had a great time socializing and enjoying the treats. Scholastic Books: Orders are due Feb 19th! Be sure to order online or send in paper orders to me before then! We will have our usual full day of school on Thursday, March 4th but will no students ELP thru 8th grade will be on campus on Friday, March 5th. Look for some activities in the future that we will be able to share through the mail or email with grandparents. So once again, no school will be held on Friday, March 5th. This week was great. In T-Math we learned about how to subtract and multiply fractions, and we did fun puzzle worksheets. In G-Math we did some challenging word problems about fractions. First we learned about how black people were segregated from baseball for stupid reasons like more injuries will occur and stuff like no ones feelings will get hurt. After that trip back through History we learned about Jackie Robinson’s life as the first black person to make it to the Major Leagues. This week in Science we started learning about bones, muscles, and skin! Mrs. Crenshaw even brought in her very own replica of a human skeleton!(His name is Eddie Bonezy) We started learning about India and IT jobs(information technology) in Social Studies. Since India is in a different Time Zone than us they can work for U.S. companies when we are asleep. In Computer this week we did more work with our circuit lab experiments. There are many different materials people are using, some are rocks or buttons, there are ribbons and tissue paper, and even insulation!
