And the last week has ended and that’s a wrap for sixth grade! What an exciting and quick year we had! I am already missing all of my kiddos and I hope they have a wonderful summer break!
We had quite a different week this week! There was a lot of cleaning, socializing, and saying goodbyes. On Tuesday we got to eat snow cones and had our Junior High Fun Day! Students enjoyed games like Scattegories, Kahoot, and Capture the Flag. Wednesday and Thursday were irregular due to cleaning and watching the film, Tuck Everlasting. We also did one last buddy activity our our preschool buddies. We built towers out of jelly beans and toothpicks. On Friday we had the chapel and awards ceremony to close out the year. This year has been an awesome second year of teaching with your children! I am so grateful to have had all of them in my class and the opportunity to teach them and learn with them every single day! I wanted to say thank you to all the parents for your help and support throughout the year. Without you guys, the year would not have ran as smoothly as it did. I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers this year! I’m especially thankful that I had the opportunity to have your child in my class and to have many experiences with them as well! Have a fantastic summer and good luck to your now seventh graders!! They grow up so fast!

We had a beautiful afternoon for field day! After a pizza picnic, kids traveled through 8 stations of games, STEM, and art to enjoy fellowship with their 1-8th grade buddies. We returned to chapel to worship with some VBS songs and see a video of our service projects from this past year. It's been wonderful to see the students build relationships across grade levels. Make sure to check out your child's faith family teacher's blog for potential photos?!
I seriously do believe this was the fastest week of them all!! We wrapped up a lot of units this week with many quizzes, tests, and homework. Your kids put in a lot of hard week, especially knowing it was the second to last week of school. Students finished their cell projects and brought them to school on Tuesday. They did an AMAZING job on these! I loved the creativity and items they used to create their cells. The entire Junior High voted for Best Looking and Most Disgusting and we had two ties!! Best Looking winners: Jake and Dominic; Summer, Daija, and Lauren Most Disgusting winners: Hailey, Grace, and Chloey; Lucy, Lily, and Madalyn All students did an excellent job! I have lots of pictures below if you didn't get a chance to check them out! In Literature, we have been discussing oral traditions which includes folk tales, fables, and myths. This week, we looked at Greek mythology and have read many of the stories! They are quite interesting! For Art last week, we studied photography. We learned about the different composition styles such as perspective, angle, "S" or "C" curves, pattern, and much more. Students were able to go around Zion's campus to take pictures on iPads of these different styles. They are now creating a pic collage of these photos and will share with the class on Monday! SO fun! Our field trip was a success! We had a lot of fun being together and learning about the Veterans of the Vietnam War and the first Lutheran settlers in Missouri.
We started out at the Missouri's National Veterans Memorial where we got to see an exact replica of The Wall of Veterans names that gave their lives in war. The first one is in Washington, D.C. and Missouri now has the first exact replica! We learned about fallen soldiers, Prisoners of War, and the importance of the wall. Next we went to one of the first Lutheran churches in Altenburg. We learned about the immigrants coming to Missouri and saw a lot of cool stuff in the museum including organs that we got to play! We also were able to search through our ancestry and learn about our family trees. We also saw the first Lutheran school. It was TINY! Then, we took our charter bus to the Saxon Memorial and got to play outside and make our own pizza! The pizza was cooked in a brick oven that we were able to see as well. After a great lunch break, we experienced what life was like when the first settlers came to Missouri. We churned butter, shelled corn, and widdled some wood. The kids did a great job on the field trip. They were very well behaved and had a fun time being together. I liked going on this trip at the end of the year because it is one of our last big chances to spend quality time together! I will miss them!! Next week is the second to last week of classes! The days are going to start getting weird as things are ending and other things are happening. Expect a lot of tests/quizzes next week! Faith Family Field Day: Coming up fast on Friday, May 17! Make sure your child has the proper equipment like sunscreen, a water bottle, towel, hat, and anything else they might need. I am looking forward to it! Lunch is provided. AR is due Monday by 3pm!!! Double check to see if your child has all of their points because it is worth 1/3 of their Lit grade! NO HOT LUNCH The last week of school, students will need to pack a cold lunch. Mrs. Boettcher will have some goodies for sale as we clean out the kitchen for the summer. Other Reminders: On Thursday, kids can wear pajamas to honor Julia's birthday! Julia is the sweetest girl who works in our cafeteria and wanted to have a pajama party! Thursday, May 16th is athletic awards night! Junior high dance on Friday, May 17th. Theme has changed to May Day. This week we learned about compound objects, fragments, and run-ons in English. In Lit, we read and finished Tuck Everlasting. In science, we started genetics. We got our research papers back too. We started new projects in Science, Literature, and Art. ~ Lily and Katie
In science, we have been talking about genetics. We are practicing filling out Punnett Squares to see what possible genes an organism could have based on their parents genes. Currently, students are creating monsters based on their mom and dad monster. I can't wait to see how they turn out!
