This week was AWESOME! Monday was PJ Day where we could dress in our most comfiest pajamas. Tuesday was a day full of color when we arrived at school dressed from head to toe in our favorite color. On Wednesday we dressed in our favorite fandom. Thursday was class choice day. Our class got to wear sweatpants and hoodies. It was a comfy & cozy day! On Friday we dressed in all the Zion apparel we had for EXTREME Spirit day! We had a test in Religion over Lessons 53-56. The way we studied for the test that we had was like no other. We had a fun little game of baseball (BTW the Girls were victorious). In English we started learning about pronouns. Remember we have a quiz over Subject and Object pronouns. In TMath this week we learned all about fractions, and in GMath we learned how to divide, subtract, and add fractions and mixed numbers. In Literature we watched a MOVIE…The Phantom Tollbooth!!! It was a very fun movie with really interesting characters! Earlier this week we had a Literature test, but the movie made up for it. :) In Social studies this week we went on a great trip to Thailand. We learned about their culture and way of life there. Question Time!!! What time of the day do people from Thailand do the pledge of allegiance everyday? The answer is at the bottom again. We also did the Geography Bee on Tuesday. Congratulations to Alex R. in 6R who won 1st place! Plus Oliver from 7th Grade who came in 2nd and Abby D. from our class came in 3rd! In Science we were able to create baby monsters in a lab that helped us understand more about how genetics work. And that was our week! :D ~Alanna & Caroline ANSWER: ^ : #) A.M. Since we had Monday off this week went by FAST! English we are preparing for a test on adverbs. Make sure you study! The test is on Monday. In writing we are going to be writing our own realistic fiction. Be prepared to take to the stage on Monday to perform a different skit that spreads the message about a certain part in Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount. In Literature we acted out the drama, Phantom Tollbooth which was super fun! Spelling is the same, but unit 15. Art took our creativity to making 3D boxes and making something creative out of it. In Math this week, GMath had a test on adding and subtracting fractions and multiplying fractions and mixed numbers. TMath learned more about expressions and watched a video about Chuck Norris. In Science we are learning about heredity and genes. On Friday we created a monster family of our own with our partners! In Social Studies we learned more about Monsoon Asia. We had a test on Friday over different cities in India and about the orographic effect. Do you know what the wettest capital of the world is? (answer at the bottom) Memory for Tuesday is 1 Corinthians 10:13 and a memory meditation!

We have been acting so much and it has been a blast! Report Cards: Ask your child about their report card. It came home today. You will also find an AR report from 2nd quarter which includes the tests they took and how many points they received. Another STAR test will be given next week and sent home soon. 2nd Step: This week we continued our talk about bullying. We looked at different scenarios and decided if they were considered bullying or not. Then we learned five tips on how to deal with or stop bullying if it is happening to us. We watched a video where a man named Brooks Gibbs shows students how to "win" in the "game" of bullying. It is a very entertaining video and I encourage you to watch it as well! Just as a reminder, gift exchanges on Zion's campus are not allowed. If your child has a gift for a friend, please exchange off campus. Students are allowed to bring in Valentine's cards or trinkets for everyone in the class. No candy allowed because of peanut allergies and because of COVID this year. We have 19 students in our homeroom class. We will have a fun party of games, snacks, and social time! This week something AMAZING happened on Friday it SNOWED!!! FINALLY! It has been awhile since it has poured down snow, so some of us were pretty amazed when we saw that it was snowing in the morning. In English we learned more about adverbs! Math took us to 2 places, T-math we learned about Exponents and in G-Math, we practiced multiplying mixed numbers and fractions, and played a little game of bingo! In Literature we went on an EPIC adventure while reading and acting the Phantom Tollbooth. We took a little trip to Dictionopolis with Milo and Tock, while meeting new people along the way. We met people like the Whetherman, but he looked like he would be a Weatherman that was the joke. Along the way we also met up with some Lethergarians; they were one of the laziest people ever, because they never think and stuff. In Science we finished off Chapter 2 which was all about the cell cycle, photosynthesis, cancer, respiration, and fermentation. We are now heading into Chapter 3 which is all about how we get our genes from our parents. Social Studies took us to Monsoon Asia; where we learned about monsoons which was the same as last week, but Unit 13. Don’t forget about the Geography Bee in 2 weeks. We have chosen our champion to compete in it! CONGRATULATIONS…. Abby Dunbar! Jack Mahoney came in second as our alternative. In Religion, we learned about Law and Spirit, and we took a memory quiz on memory. Oh, and don’t forget Wednesday’s memory is 1John 3:1! Our artist skills went to Positive and Negative art. That pretty much sums it all up! I promise to take pictures more!! So sorry! End of 2nd Q Students celebrate the halfway mark of 6th grade! I am so proud of their hard work. I see growth in so many ways. Teachers are finalizing grades and report cards come home next Friday. It is a good time to sit down with your child and ask of what they are most proud. We are enjoying lessons on drama, fractions, adverbs, Asia, genetics, and how the Holy Spirit works in our lives. So much learning going on! Right after break, I had the students create a one word New Year's Resolution in English class. The kids put a lot of thought into their goals. Ask your child to show you their project. This was an amazing week, in three days we were able to do lots of things! We learned about adverbs and adjectives in English and even made New Years’ Resolutions. In TMath we learned about GCF & LCM (Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple). In GMath we learned how to make a really cool foldable packet. We add notes in it like this week we added, adding and subtracting common denominators and how to multiply fractions. In Religion we read about Jesus and the women by the well! In Science we started a google slide about different cancers and how to prevent it.
