Reminders: No school Friday, 4/7 (Good Friday) No school Monday, 4/10-14 (Spring Break) Research Papers due Tuesday, 4/18!!!!! They need a clear report cover too!!! Achievement Testing: Achievement Testing starts the week of April 17th. Zion uses the Iowa Basic Skills tests and will be testing through their online system. Encourage your child to get good rest and eat breakfast each day! 6th grade Field Trip: Fri. MAY 12, 2023 Our last field trip will be an extended day trip to Perry County, Missouri. We will have an opportunity to learn the history of some of the earliest Lutherans to settle in America and how Veterans are honored. Our trip will take us to: Missouri National Veteran’s Memorial. This is a newly built exact replica of the D.C. Vietnam Memorial. Students will learn about honoring veterans of all U.S. military branches. Lutheran Heritage Center Museum Here we hear the history and examine artifacts of early Lutheran immigrants, see a Lutheran church from the 1800s and the first seminary in the country. Saxon Lutheran Memorial This is an historic homestead where will have an opportunity to not only learn about colonial life, but also try typical chores of the early pioneers on. Some possibilities are churning butter, laundry, grinding corn, and trying carpentry tools. MARK YOUR CALENDAR!! Plan on Arrival at Zion between 6:30-6:40 AM A comfy charter bus ride, graciously sponsored by our PTL!!! *An historical tour learning about the earliest Lutherans in America. *Active participation on the farm (wear appropriate clothes, shoes/boots) rain or shine. LUNCH: Most likely a cold lunch. Return to Zion at 5:30 P.M. (plan accordingly) **FUN AND FELLOWSHIP as we learn about honoring our veterans and the spread of the Christian faith in America!!

Monday we had PE and we did badminton! We also had study hall and choir! We really enjoyed it!! Tuesday was a normal day. Wednesday we had gym and Cassidy and Maddie won the badminton tournament. Thursday was fun! We did strings/music/study hall. Friday we had a huge WIFI outage and we couldn't do anything online! It is crazy how much we use WIFI at school. RESEARCH PAPERS UNDER CONSTRUCTION: The first draft of the research paper is due Tuesday/Wednesday during block. This might be a good time to check in with your child have see how things are going. Read over their draft and help them use the "read aloud" technique to see if ideas flow and sentences make sense. The Passion of Jesus In Religion, students have begun the walk through Holy Week with Jesus. Did you know that 1/5 of the Gospel accounts are dedicated to this single week of Jesus' life? Thursday we explored Palm Sunday and today Jesus "cleaning" the temple by driving out the money changers and merchants. We saw how when Jesus humbly mounted a donkey to enter Jerusalem, he was a fulfillment of prophecy that boldly declared he was the promised Messiah. Achievement Testing April 20-28 Zion will be holding achievement tests in April. Please avoid scheduling appointments this week if possible. This week we have done a lot of new things! First off, we are doing a fun cross art project, where we get to choose our own type of cross and then decorate it, then write a paper about . Baby Mason’s baptism is this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. At your one and only, Zion Lutheran church. Mrs. Donner invites you all to come see! We have a religion test on monday, so remember to study. -JULIA AND STELLA OF 6TH GRADE Report Cards and AR Reports Came Home Friday. The first week of 4th quarter is under our belts. I am so proud of your children and their hard work this year. This week has been great! We started a new book called Blended in Literature. Most of us have gathered research paper resources and started taking notes in English. We also started a new art project. Today marked the end of 3rd quarter. I am so proud of the students and their hard work this year! Teachers are processing grades and report cards will be sent home on Friday. I'm excited to enter this fun spring time of learning and growing in our faith together!
