Week 7 is complete! Here is what we did!
All week our sixth graders have been writing and editing their opinion essays in English. Their final, printed essay is due Monday where we will celebrate our writing! I am excited to show you their work during Parent/Teacher conferences! We have continued talking about the different parts of the Old Testament in the Bible, specifically focusing on the prophets. In Literature, we have been discussing inferences, symbolism, and fact/opinion. We will soon be watching "The Prince and the Pauper"! A movie in black and white! How fun! Lastly, in Science, we finished up our Magnetism chapter and the kids took a test on Tuesday. They all did well on the test! Friday was the winner of the week that was filled with lots of fun activities. We received the opportunity to watch the 8th graders do their rocket launch in the morning! We actually got to vote for "Most Scientific" and "Best Dressed" rockets the day before. The kids loved it! Some rockets got up to great heights while others slowly made their way down to the ground. See pics below! (Thanks to our new photographer, Connor!) In the afternoon on Friday, we held our Walkathon! Our prayers were heard as the weather was absolutely perfect! I noticed a lot of sixth graders running while the others walked and still got to five or six miles! Our class total mileage was about 114 miles!! The kids really enjoyed this event and were excited to raise money for two great causes! The pledges are due by October 9th so your kids can still try to raise money up until then! Pics below! Schedule your Parent Conference: Teachers are eager to discuss your child's progress this year as we partner together in their education. We are holding parent teacher conferences on Thursday, Oct. 19. Please note the detailed directions on Sycamore. For the short version - Login - go to My School- PTConference - use the drop down menu to select each child and click the time available. If you have children in more than 1 building, remember to allow yourself travel time. Such as: third grader, fifth grader, 8th grader 3B 8:00 5C 8:15 travel 8:30 8B 8:45 Field trip Friday, Oct. 13 Field trip permission slips came home on Thursday for our Weldon Spring Interpretive Center/Bowling field trip. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about environmental cleanup in our area and to do a PE activity that we cannot provide on campus. The kids will also learn about bowling scoring in math. We are seeking parent drivers to join us for the day. Parents need to have a current driver background check on file. Please email me or indicate on the permission slip if you are able to attend and the number of students you could drive. If we have more parents than needed, Mrs. Remienschneider will draw names on Wednesday. AR Points AR is due October 9th and each student needs 16 points. If you are curious how many points your kid has, make sure to visit the AR HomeConnect website located in my Websites tab at the top. Most of the students have 16+ points and it is my goal that we all get there by October 9th! If students receive 20, 50, or even 100 points, they can receive a No Homework Coupon! Scholastic Book Orders: The next order is due October 24th. My class code is: R6TZX. Because of you all, this last month our class was able to receive a free book for each student in the class! The book is titled "The Time We Ran Away." It is a book filled with short stories! How exciting!! Tip of the Week: Double check that your child is emptying out his or her Friday Folder each Friday. I've noticed that some of these folders are PACKED with papers from previous weeks. Go through these papers with your child and notice all of the hard work they have put into this first quarter so far! Next week is OCTOBER!!! Enjoy this amazing Fall weather and last few days of September! :)

For some reason, the weather has decided to spike back up to the 90's and it has been toasty! (Maybe due to the hurricanes??) I'm not sure about you all, but time is flying by and these weeks go by in a blink. Here is what we did this week!
We took our first Religion test on Monday and everyone did great! One of the short answers questions asked how the kids can set aside time each day to be with God. They had fantastic answers! We then talked about setting aside five minutes each day for them to spend time with God. They wrote in their planners when they would do this and I hope they are sticking to it! I encourage everyone to set aside five minutes each day to be with God. I try my best every day to do so as well! Thursday, we had a new Second Steps lesson about considering others' perspectives. In order to empathize with others, we have to understand and consider all possibilities that the other person might be experiencing. Knowing how to do this might decrease conflict and build stronger relationships. Religion: The structure of the Bible and God's covenant promises English: WRITING Opinion Essay Literature: Fiction and Nonfiction with an emphasis on fact/opinion and symbolism Science: Magnetism I know in Social Studies that the kids put on a weather skit. Pictures are added below! So fun! BOBCAT SHUFFLE: The Bobcat Shuffle is October 28th! This event is a great way to help out the school and have fun with Zion school members! Consider signing up to run or walk a 5K filled with lots of music and food! Also, if our class has the most people sign up, our classroom alone gets a dress down day! How fun! WALKATHON: The walkathon is next week on Friday!! I hope the kids have found many people to pledge money to the cause. Potential people who could pledge include family members, friends, Zion families without a kid at Zion anymore, or your kid can pledge money themselves! The afternoon is going to be filled with fun activities! The kids are allowed to wear dress down clothes which includes athletic bottoms (appropriate length) and a Bobcat Spirit shirt. Maybe bring sunscreen and a hat to wear because we will be outside for awhile. We will have lunch in the classroom. Make sure their lunches have no peanut products since there won't be a peanut free table. Hot lunch will still be served but I just wanted to let you all know about cold lunches be 100% peanut free on Friday. REMINDER: We have a half day of school on Wednesday, the 27th! School dismisses at 12:00pm. Another week has flown by! This week was short and sweet but definitely full of challenges for the kids. We had three tests so I know they studied lots!
Has it really been almost a full month of school?? I cannot believe it! Lots happened in this very short and quick week!
