Another fantastic week is behind us! This week flew by and I think the kiddos had a lot of fun!
In Religion this week, the students started defining Law and Gospel and what the differences are between the two. We were able to have our first Second Steps lesson on Thursday that discussed including others when we hang out and play! Next week, they will learn that they should not only be a friend towards everyone but also an ally to people who need it. This Wednesday was our first week sitting in Chapel with our Faith Family. This is a group of students from all grades 1-8 and a teacher. We build relationships through chapel, activities, service, and prayer. This week we had our first faith family activity. We learned that Jesus will cover our worries, fears, and anxieties with His PEACE. We made book bag tags to remind us that Jesus gives us PEACE and we are CALLED TO CARE and share Jesus love and peace with others. We then returned to chapel to celebrate Baptismal Remembrance for July, August, and September. In Literature, the students wrote a point of view essay taking the view of another character in the story, "Drive In Movies." They came up with some very creative stories while taking on the role as a side character from the story! I encourage you to read them! ART If you stop in, make sure to check out the hallways downstairs in Junior High! We have started to display artwork and other fun projects we have worked on this year so far! REMINDERS: 1. Don't forget to remind your child to bring chapel offering each week if they feel so inclined :) 2. Make sure your kid is reading every day! AR is due October 21st and they need 16 points! I have seen a couple of kids take quizzes but it is always good to be reading each and every day! 3. Help your child stay organized by going through their binder at least once a week! I know a couple of them had Friday papers from last week which should stay at home for you to enjoy!

What a fun filled week we had in 6P! Our first full week has flown by and the kids were awesome. We are now in the FULL SWING of things and the kiddos are doing a great job adjusting! We will definitely perfect it over the coming weeks!
This week was our first full week of the school year. We went to chapel for the second time this year, and we learned about God. There was an ant infestation in Ms. Preusser’s sixth grade classroom on Thursday. Grace Gaghen’s lunch got infested with ants. We also completed an art project. On Monday, we played volleyball in gym. On Thursday, Jay J got contacts, and we had a science quiz. We look forward to the weekend and the rest of the year. ~ written by bloggers Ella and Brendan We now have a full week under our belts and a sense of how classes and transitions go. We are getting better each and every day with these things along with travel to and from classes, organization, and turning in homework. They also are understanding and learning the importance of responsibility and what it means to be a sixth grade student at Zion. These kids absolutely love their classroom jobs and being helpers whenever possible! They have been such a great help for when things start to get crazy! On Wednesday, we were able to use the STEAM lab for the first time by completing a Static Electricity Lab! The kids experimented with static electricity and charge as they used balloons, spoons, salt and pepper, paper, and water. They would charge the balloons or spoons by rubbing them on felt, plastic wrap, or...their hair! They learned that some objects were attracted to the charged objects while others repelled. Ask them about it! It was great! (Pics below) Our first units for each subject are as follows: Religion: What is the Bible? Social Studies: Mapping Skills Math: (for both classes) Place Value, Basic Operations, Properties of Addition/Multiplication Literature: Fiction/Nonfiction English: The Sentence and its pieces Science: Electricity and Magnetism Art: Tesselations STUCO Interest Meeting: Students wanting to know what Student Council is all about or interested in attending the High Ropes course at Camp Wartburg need to plan on staying after school for a meeting in Mr. Braddy’s room Tuesday, 8/27 from 3-3:30pm. Can’t make it? See Mr. Braddy during school Monday for information! Scholastic Book Orders: Well, I forgot again to give out the order forms. It will happen, I promise! If students are interesting in books, orders will be due August 30 by 5pm. I am putting a reminder on my phone now to pass them out right away on Monday! Lastly, thanks to all who attended Back to School Night. I am ready and excited for full week #2! If you have any questions or concerns, let me know! Happy weekend! Wednesday was the first day of school. Students met their teachers they will have for the rest of the school year. From little preschoolers to big 8th graders, everyone had a fun day. Also on the first day of school we experienced chapel for the first time. On the second day of school, the learning got started. Children from all around the school had to do their first REAL work of the school year. On the third day of school, kids got to experience the thrill of the week ending. I hope the rest of the school year is as fun as the first few days were! ~Brendan A. and Ella C.
Those three days went by quick! We did a lot of learning and growing together as a class. I think we started the year off with success! I am so happy to be with your kids! They have been wonderful and very respectful! We started our year off by focusing on our school theme: Mark 10:45 Here is what we did this week! Wednesday: Came in nervous, left with smiles. We went to chapel and learned new songs. Our chapel offering _____ Afterwards, we took our school photo outside and chanted "Called to Care!" Later on, we played games, got acquainted with Jr. High rules and expectations, and asked lots of questions. We are getting into our routine already! I love it! Thursday we started getting into the swing of how our classes will work this year. To the 6th graders' surprise, they did receive some homework that day! We also had PE with Mrs. Riemenschneider's class and played dodgeball! Friday was even more structured but with plenty of fun things to learn about. The kids started their first art project, we read Wingdings in Literature, and started a real English class. It looked they were enjoying themselves, even in SCHOOL! NEW TO SIXTH GRADE: One of our big goals in 6th grade is for students to become more independent in their learning. This news blog will update you on current happenings, but in 6th grade we no longer publish spelling words, memory assignments, or tests in the parent news. These are things your child will be tracking in their assignment book. If an individual student needs more organizational help, I will work one-on-one with that student. I plan to publish this blog weekly on the weekends. SYCAMORE: You should have received a login for Sycamore Education from Mrs. Schmidt. This is your access to school news. This will also be how you access your child's grades. Please click around, and ask questions if you are confused. Parent Helpers: Please let me know ASAP if you would like to be a room parent or a prayer parent. I can send you more information personally if you are interested in either of these options. Thanks! BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT: Mark your calendar: The PTL Back to School Night is Thursday, August 22 at 6:30 p.m. This is an "adult only" information night. Join the 2 sixth grade teachers in the 6Preusser classroom to hear further information about the unique aspects of 6th grade. There are three 20 minute session times with a 5 minute time to get to another child's classroom. Please attend one of the 6th grade sessions. I look forward to seeing you! There are three sessions you can attend: 6:30pm: Session 1 6:50pm: Passing period 7:00pm: Session 2 7:20pm: Passing period 7:30pm: Session 3 SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS: Even when I thought I was super organized this week (I definitely know way more on what to do than last year) I forgot to send book order forms home on Friday. I will be sure to pass those out on Monday. I will be placing the first order on August 30th at 5pm so be sure to get those in before then! Our class code is: R6TZX Reminder: Don't forget to fill out the birthday treat form I sent in an email this past Tuesday! Thanks! Overall, a fantastic three days.
