This week was an amazing first full week of school! Some fun things we did... In science we learned about static electricity and we got to do our Science lab. We got to charge things by creating friction. In social studies we started learning about location and longitude and latitude. We got to throw a beach ball globe and decide where the location was. This week we learned a lot and it was a great start to the school year! ~Eliana and Claire
What a fun filled week we had in 6D! Our first full week has flown by and the kids were awesome. We are now in the FULL SWING of things and the kiddos are doing a great job adjusting! We will definitely perfect it over the coming weeks! On Wednesday, we were able to to complete our first lab about Static Electricity! The kids experimented with static electricity and charge as they used balloons, plastic wrap, salt and pepper, and paper. They would charge the balloons or plastic wrap by rubbing them on paper towels or...their hair! They learned that some objects were attracted to the charged objects while others repelled. Ask them about it! It was great! (Pics below) Reminder: No School on Friday, Sept 3 or Monday, Sept 6 What are we learning? Religion: What is the Bible? Law and Gospel, Genres Literature: Fiction/Nonfiction, emphasizing predicting and prior knowledge English: The Sentence and its pieces Science: Electricity, Static Electricity Art: Bible Point of View Math: Double digit multiplication, Area and Perimeter, supporting our thinking Social Studies: Map tools, Latitude and Longitude

Those three days went by quick! We did a lot of learning and growing together as a class. I think we started the year off with success! I am so happy to be with your kids. They have been wonderful and very respectful. We started our year off by focusing on our school theme:
John 20:21Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” New to 6th Grade: 6th grade is all about learning independence. My blog will update you on important school info and the fun things we did but we no longer publish spelling words, memory assignments, or tests in the parent news. These are things your child will be tracking in their assignment book. Scholastic Book Orders: Kids should have brought home Scholastic book forms on Friday. I will be placing the first order on September 17th so be sure to get those in if you want to order books! Our class code is: R6TZX Other Notes:
