This week was a little weird. First off we didn’t have a normal week since we had Monday off. Religion this week was a review and video week. Tuesday was a video, Wednesday was Chapel, Thursday was 2nd Step, and Friday was a review where we did Quizziz. In English this week we are continuing our “End of the Year” unit. We learned about titles, abbreviations, quotations, and interjections. In Math we finished our group unit and have moved on to separate units. G-Math is working more with negative and positive numbers. While T-Math is changing directions to focus on ratios. In Literature we have continued to read Tuck Everlasting. For Social Studies we are wrapping up or country Thinglinks to make our class Europe Thinglink. Do you know who Eric Carle is? He is a famous children's book illustrator who wrote Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? Our art this week is focused on collaging animals which is what Carle is famous for. Fun fact he was on Mr. Rogers Neighborhood in 1998. Don’t forget about memory meditation and verse next week. ~Abby and Alanna
Tuck Everlasting In Literature, students have been reading the novel, Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt and then leading small group discussions in "book club" format. We are exploring the literary elements of foreshadowing, character development, motive, and universal theme as the characters ponder the benefits and downfalls of living forever. It is exciting to look at the novel through the eyes of faith as we discussed God's original design in Eden as well as our eternal life in the heavenly home he has prepared for us. Students are discovering the blessings God gives us in this life through the many stages we live and even more blessings to be received in eternity with Him! We will culminate the novel next week with creative projects. JH Electives- Kindly respond by May 14 Music is back! See your email (reprinted here) to sign your child up for JH Electives in 7th grade. Help your child make a choice that will work best for him/her for the entire 7th grade year. The Thoelkes and Mrs. Holz would be happy to talk more with you about what the music options are like. The link provided contains your junior high elective sign up for next school year. Please talk to your child(ren) about what they want to select. Once you sign up we cannot change it as we use this information for staffing and scheduling. Each student needs to take one year of electives. This can be done with one course (that is a year long) such as band, choir, classroom music, strings or with the combination of semester courses such as classroom music, computer science, and leadership development. Please note, elective options differ for 6th graders and 7th/8th graders. We do have class size limits so results are time stamped. First ones in get priority. This sign up needs to be completed by Friday, May 14th. If you have any questions about the classes please reach out. Below are some information about some of the semester based classes. This week was a little weird weather wise. It SNOWED on Tuesday. Also this week instead of having Religion we got to do Best Choice. For English we turned in our final research paper project and moved on to our end of the year unit from our book. In Math we are finishing our group unit on negative numbers and coordinate planes. For Literature we started our new class book Tuck Everlasting. It is a pretty good book so far. In Social Studies we are continuing to work on our European country for a group Thinglink. For Science we finished Chapter 3 and took our test Monday. Then we moved on to our new chapter Fighting Disease. In art we are finishing up our hand project by adding newspaper clippings to it. In Computer Science we created our own cross word for our spelling words. Just a reminder there is no school Monday because the teachers are learning about the new textbooks. Also we have a math test on Thursday. ~Abby and Alanna

It was great for our students to interact with her who care about them and was such a great witnesses! SOS - 6th grade needs paper towels! If you have any extra at home, we would gladly accept them! Thanks! Miss what happened at Best Choice? Check your email from M, T, TH, and F! Detailed info was sent. No school MONDAY Teachers are in professional development for our new math curriculum and other tasks. Book fair ends WEDNESDAY. There is a 3D Virtual tour available that simulates browsing the shelves. Have your child check it out from the Sycamore link. We are at the mid quarter. Please give teachers until afternoon on MONDAY to get grades updated, then plan a time to check Sycamore with your child. Set goals for the last part of 6th grade! Can you believe it?? Here is what we did this week! In Religion we learned more about Jesus’s crucifixion and wrote a POV paragraph as if we were there. On Friday we learned about Jesus’s resurrection. In English this week we are finally finishing up our research paper. In Math this week we learned about graphs and graphing points and took a tiny quiz over what we have learned so far on Friday. We finished our poet projects and everyone did so well! Everyone's poems were so interesting. Today we are starting our country projects for our grades thinglink. In Science we are wrapping up our circulation unit with a final test on Monday. We used paper mache in art this week to make sculptures of our hands. Later we will cover them in magazine clippings. ~Abby D
Best Choice in April NEXT WEEK, we welcome an educator from Best Choice to lead our Religion classes. Through this program, students will be involved in active discussions about setting goals, healthy relationships, puberty, and making God-pleasing decisions. The Best Choice program is designed to encourage children to make lifelong commitments to building relationships, making informed choices, choosing abstinence before marriage, and avoiding risky behaviors. Mrs. Donner and I will participate in the classes and continue follow up discussions. To help you prepare for discussions with your child at home, here are the topics Best Choice has used in the past. I will email you daily with our discussions. Classes are Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Friday. I pray that you use these as opportunities to open the dialogue with your child and share your values with them. Research shows parents are still the number one influence on their teens! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

A lot of students were not looking forward to starting our unit in poetry but by the end, they were writing really amazing poems! Be sure to ask them about it! To end the week, we held a Poetry Slam (this is the modern way to say poetry reading - complete with soda and pretzels) The students were able to research a poet and look for all of the elements we had studied in his or her work. It was neat to see the variety of poetry chosen. How exciting it is that we got to spend all week discussing Holy Week in Religion! We talked about God's covenant promises and how Jesus fulfilled them! We cannot save ourselves; only Jesus could do that for us, because He is the sinless Son of God. Amazingly, He is also our substitute! He gives His victory to us!
Jesus suffered all things, died on the cross, and arose at Easter to complete our salvation. It is finished! He offers us the gifts of forgiveness and eternal life through His loving grace and mercy. May God bless your family time this EASTER SEASON. I hope you all have an amazing and blessed Easter! IMPORTANT THINGS COMING SOON... Bring a poster board by Tues. 4/13 for a poetry project (any color) Spring Break is the perfect time to get a clear cover report for the final research paper!
